What’s blue and pink and ready to kick some serious bad guy butt? It’s Harley Quinn in her new Batfamily get-up. As the ex-clown princess of crime herself said, “You can stop salivating” because Season 4 of the animated (but very adult) Harley Quinn series is about to start streaming on Max, and it looks like she’s joined up with the good guys this time.

Harley Quinn Season 4 has the villain becoming part of the Bat-family.

The highly anticipated trailer for Season 4 of Harley Quinn was finally unveiled during the Max Original Animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, and fans are buzzing with excitement over the new developments in the series.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the life of the title character, Harley Quinn, voiced by the talented Kaley Cuoco, as she embarks on a new journey in heroism. However, her decision to become a superhero is not without its challenges.

One of the most noticeable changes in the trailer is Harley’s brand-new Bat-costume, showcasing her transformation from villain to vigilante. The decision to pursue heroism came after Batman, voiced by Diedrich Bader, is arrested by Mayor Joker for tax evasion and was presumably sent to Arkham Asylum. With the Caped Crusader away, Gotham City needs a new champion, and Harley steps up to the plate.

However, this transition won’t be easy for Harley Quinn, especially when it comes to adhering to the Batfamily’s strict “no killing” policy. As someone who is fueled by pure chaos, Harley will have to reckon with her past actions and find a way to uphold justice without resorting to lethal measures.

“Harley Quinn is Harley Quinn. She can put on a different costume. She can hang out with a different crew. But she’s going to smash things with her bat.”

Supervising producer Ian Hamilton on Harley Quinn Season 4

Supervising producer Ian Hamilton shed some light on Harley’s character development during the panel. He stated, “Harley Quinn is Harley Quinn. She can put on a different costume. She can hang out with a different crew. But she’s going to smash things with her bat.”

It’s good to hear that the new season won’t try to reform Harley completely because, at the end of the day, fans watch Harley Quinn for her chaotic neutral ways, and to change that would be a disgrace to her character.

Snowflame in Harley Quinn Season 4

Meanwhile, while Harley embarks on her path as a hero, her girlfriend Poison Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell, chooses a different direction for Harley Quinn Season 4. Ivy accepts an offer from Lex Luthor, voiced by Giancarlo Esposito, to become the Legion of Doom’s new CEO—or, as Lex condescendingly refers to her, the “shEO.

As the new leader of the Legion of Doom, Ivy will undoubtedly have her hands full dealing with a cabal of sexist supervillains, including the intriguing character Snowflame. Snowflame, a canonical DC character, possesses superpowers fueled by snorting cocaine. Hamilton expressed his excitement about Snowflame’s inclusion in the new Harley Quinn season, saying, “I guess they wanted a cocaine-powered supervillain in the ’80s, and our wonderful EPs discovered this and said, ‘You know who would be great to have as the worst person to deal with as the leader of the Legion of Doom? A guy who has to always be on cocaine.'”

Part of the magic of Harley Quinn is the show’s ability to turn obscure comic book characters into either terrible and terrifying villains or endearing heroes. After all, Season 1 had the entire audience falling in love with a “villain” named Kite Man, whose only superpower is the ability to hang glide, and let’s not even get started on the fact that there is a character called Condiment King. So, a cocaine-powered villain definitely seems to fall into the series’ ballpark, and it will be interesting to see how he evolves with the show.

Despite heading in different directions, Ivy and Harley’s relationship remains intact. Co-creators of Harley Quinn, Justin Halperin and Patrick Schumacker, assured fans last year at Comic-Con, in a video that was shared during the panel, that the two characters would not be breaking up anytime soon. Their love and bond will be put to the test as they navigate their separate paths, but they are determined to make it work.

As the trailer concludes, fans are left eagerly anticipating the premiere of Season 4, set to air on Max on July 27. With the promise of new adventures, unexpected alliances, and the unyielding spirit of Harley Quinn, this upcoming season is sure to captivate audiences and leave them eagerly awaiting each thrilling episode.
