DC Studios co-head James Gunn took to Instagram yesterday to celebrate Wonder Woman Day with a post that has fans talking. While the picture in the post is enough for fans to speculate on where Gunn and his partner Peter Safran will take the franchise, it’s a comment from actress Eiza Gonzalez that has followers wondering if Gal Gadot has been officially replaced.

Eiza Gonzales hints she is the new Wonder Woman

Writing “This image is the one,” in the comments, Gonzalez sparked a slurry of rumors with fans rushing to put in their bid for the Bloodshot star’s casting.

The bloody Wonder Woman photo hints at a new take on the character

The picture at the center of the whispers is one of a Wonder Woman that the Patty Jenkins-helmed previous live-action films haven’t fully captured – a blood-soaked Diana Prince in full uniform. Holding a sharp and bloody sword and covered in gold battle armor, the character looks like she’s ready for any opponents in her way. But with fans buzzing, the question remains of whether action star Eiza Gonzalez will step into the role or if it will go back to Gal Gadot.

Eiza Gonzalez is now fans top pick

With her background in films like Bloodshot, Machete and Alita: Battle Angel, Eiza Gonzalez may be fans’ top pick to take over the part of Wonder Woman from Gal Gadot, nothing has been set in stone but the drama surrounding the potential third film has been making waves over the last few months. After making a handful of comments that alleged that both James Gunn and Peter Safran had approached her to be in the franchise’s next installment, Gadot’s words were debunked by the DC Studios co-heads who said that this wasn’t the case. Still, they didn’t fully rule Gadot out as they said that at this time, there just aren’t any plans for another Wonder Woman movie.

A lot of people still want Gal Gadot, casting Eiza Gonzalez could be divisive

It was a strange back-and-forth that rattled the DC fandom as many were hoping to see Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman receive the trilogy treatment. In the almost full year since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, followers have been served up a handful of surprises that have essentially torn at the fabric of the characters they know and love. If Eiza Gonzalez were to be cast as the next Wonder Woman, it would be another decision that would likely prove to be divisive.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is Next for DC

Aquaman

With a year dotted with cinematic failures including Shazam! The Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle, DC Studios is hoping that the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will reignite the box office flame. If it doesn’t, James Gunn and Peter Safran aren’t fully sweating it as they have a handful of other films and TV shows on the way like Superman: Legacy which will not include the talents of the long-running Man of Steel, Henry Cavill. Instead, David Corenswet will don the iconic uniform, something that Eiza Gonzalez may also find herself getting measured for should a Wonder Woman film move forward without Gal Gadot.

Eiza Gonzalez’s Wonder Woman movie may be a long way off

Although it’s exciting to toss around the idea that Eiza Gonzalez could be DC’s next Wonder Woman, the chances of a film being added to the docket any time soon are pretty slim. And, with Gal Gadot still having her eye set on the character, it’s anyone’s guess how this will all unfold.
