Actors Who Could Replace Ezra Miller As The Flash

With The Flash now firmly in the books for the DC Universe, and becoming one of the worst box office bombs in recent memory, there’s reason to suspect we’ve seen the last of Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. With his trials (literally) and tribulations, as well as James Gunn’s pivot into all-new stories, this could be the end of the line for Miller.

But The Flash is simply too big of a character to think about going away for good. We’ll likely see another speedster sooner than later, or at least down the line. So it’s never too early to think about who could take over the red suit and blur of action. Let’s take a look at some actors who might fit the bill if Ezra Miller were to speed off.

Grant Gustin

You know, Grant Gustin has kind of already paved his way as the character, thanks to his role in the Arrowverse TV series The Flash. I mean, the dude’s got a solid fan base who’ve seen him in action, so there’s a sense of familiarity there. If looking for a safe Ezra Miller replacement, Gustin is probably the guy.

He’s really nailed Barry Allen’s mix of being witty, vulnerable, and totally determined. The cool thing is, having played the role, he’s had the chance to really dive into the character’s ups and downs, making his portrayal feel genuine and relatable.

That being said, James Gunn did recently say he’s spoken to Grant Gustin and there aren’t any real plans to bring him into the fold. It doesn’t mean Ezra Miller is safe, but just that Gustin might not be the guy.

Robert Sheehan

Alright, hear me out on this one: Robert Sheehan, the guy from Misfits and The Umbrella Academy. His offbeat and eccentric style could add a unique flavor to The Flash. I mean, he’s proven he can juggle humor and deeper emotions, which would fit right into Barry Allen’s shoes.

Sheehan’s got this quirky charm that could make Barry stand out in a good way. Imagine him injecting some unpredictability and authenticity into the role – that’d be something to see! The knock here is that in terms of look and tone, he actually might be a little too close to Ezra Miller.

As Klaus in The Umbrella Academy, he perfectly combined emotion with laugh-out-loud funny moments and one-liners, something critical when playing Barry Allen.

Note: Umbrella Academy running mate Aiden Gallagher would also fit well here. Dude already has shown the ability to pull off this type of super-powered hero on that series.

Timothée Chalamet

Now, Timothée Chalamet might not be your typical superhero type, but that’s what could make him interesting as a younger Flash. He’s got this rising star power, you know? And he’s got this knack for playing characters with all these layers of feelings. We are about to see some of those on display with Wonka and have already seen it as Paul Atriedes. If anything, he’s just already a way bigger star than Ezra Miller anyway.

Picture Chalamet as a Barry Allen just starting to figure out his superpowers – his natural charisma and relatable vibe could totally capture that journey of self-discovery and the struggles of a young hero. The problem here would be a bit of franchise fatigue considering he’s already rocking the main role in Dune.

Ansel Elgort

Okay, Ansel Elgort might not be the first name that comes to mind, but think about it for a second. He’s been in roles like Baby Driver which had him dialing up speed in a different kind of way (behind the wheel). And in The Fault in Our Stars he’s balanced action and deep emotions. His youthful look and energy could totally work for The Flash.

I mean, he’s got that charm that could make a Barry Allen who’s both endearing and heroic. Ansel might bring that relatability to the character’s challenges and victories.

Dylan O’Brien

You know who’d be a cool Flash? Dylan O’Brien. Shows like Teen Wolf and series The Maze Runner have shown he can handle the action sequences already. Plus, he’s got this knack for playing characters who can handle tough situations while cracking a joke or two. The latter is something Ezra Miller was great at.

And that’s what we love about Barry Allen, right? O’Brien’s got the quick wit and physicality to pull off The Flash’s speedy nature. Imagine him bringing that down-to-earth and human touch to the character – someone who’s not just a hero, but also a guy you could grab a burger with.

Taron Egerton

Let’s talk about Taron Egerton for a moment. You know him from movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service and Rocketman. The firmer showed him more than able to rock it where the action was concerned. And the latter just showed his range. He’s got this blend of charisma, action chops, and emotional depth that could make for an interesting Flash. Ezra Miller eat your heart out.

Egerton’s proven he can handle both fast-paced sequences and heartfelt moments, which are essential for bringing Barry Allen to life. Just imagine him embodying the humor and determination of The Flash while also adding his own unique spin to the character. It’s an exciting prospect to think about how he could contribute to the DC Universe as our Scarlet Speedster.
