Obviously, we’ve seen plenty of Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), lots of Wanda Maximoff, and even Wong has appeared two of the last three MCU flicks. But of all the heroes set to appear in Doctor Strange 2 — aka Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — one of the most highly anticipated still hasn’t been seen clearly, until now. Thanks to some action figure box art, we now know how Xochitl Gomez will look as the universe-hopping hero America Chavez.

While Gomez shows up in the Doctor Strange 2 trailer that premiered as a post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home, in each of her shots she’s either shown from behind or view of her is obscured by Benedict Cumberbatch who’s standing in front of her. As reported by CBR on Thursday, box art released for America Chavez’s Marvel Legends action figure was released by Hasbro, including art of Gomez as the hero. This is the first clear look we’ve gotten of Gomez as America, and fans of the comic should be thrilled. Gomez’s America looks as comics-accurate as you can get, and in the art she pays homage to one of the variant covers of 2017’s America #1. You can see both images below — first the Marvel Legends box art, followed by the America #1 variant cover for comparison.

In a long list of powers that includes flight, super speed, and super strength, America has the ability to travel between dimensions, which likely explains how she comes to appear in Doctor Strange 2. She first showed up in the source material going by the name Miss America in the 2011 Marvel miniseries Vengeance. Her popularity rose after appearing as a pivotal character in the 2015 all-female superhero miniseries A-Force. She’s since gone on to join the Young Avengers, the West Coast Avengers, and the Ultimates. The character made comic book history when her solo series premiered in 2017. America is a lesbian raised by same-sex parents, and her solo series America became the very first ongoing series led by an LGBTQ+ person of color in Marvel Comics.

It remains to be seen exactly how Xochitl Gomez’s version of America Chavez will fit into Doctor Strange 2 in terms of her origin. In the comics, America is eventually said to not be from the prime Marvel reality, but from a place existing outside the Multiverse called the Utopian Parallel. However, in a miniseries released this year — America: Made in the U.S.A. — her origin is retconned, and the Utopian Parallel is instead revealed to be a secret experimental medical facility.

Now that we’ve seen America, that leaves one more Marvel hero we’d love to get a clear shot of. Technically he hasn’t been confirmed for Doctor Strange 2, but one shot (seen above) in the trailer reveals a bulky, horned figure who is likely Rintrah — a character who looks like a green minotaur and for a time acted as Doctor Strange’s apprentice and ally in the comics. Back in February, The Direct suggested it would be Adam Hugill (1917) playing Rintrah, but that hasn’t been confirmed. In the shot above, which happens around 01:35 in the trailer, you can’t make out whether the big guy in the center is green, but he’s definitely got horns. How many big, horned guys could possibly show up in Doctor Strange 2? Well, quite a lot, actually, so we’ll see.
