Disney+ Series Is The Greatest Sitcom Of All Time With Lots To Binge

By Douglas Helm | Published

Every now and then, a sitcom enters the conversation of being one of the funniest sitcoms of all time. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia definitely deserves its place amongst the Seinfelds and The Offices of the world, and is well worth your time if you like your sitcom characters to be reprehensible and endlessly hilarious. Funnily enough, you can watch this very TV-MA-rated sitcom over on the Hulu section of Disney+ if you have access to both subscriptions.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Is On Disney+

Like many great sitcoms, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a very simple premise. It follows a group of friends known as “The Gang,” who run an Irish dive bar in South Philadelphia. However, this group of friends happens to be terrible people and borderline (or not-so-borderline) sociopathic. Many episodes follow “The Gang” being terrible members of society, and the show finds its voice almost immediately with the pilot, “The Gang Gets Racist,” where Charlie tries to prove he’s not racist.

Every Character Is Completely Insane

Of course, you can’t have a great sitcom without extremely memorable and funny characters played by brilliantly comedic actors, and each member of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crew brings something unique to the table. While some sitcoms would balance out their over-the-top characters like Kramer or Constanza with a straight-man like Jerry Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia goes for broke by making all its characters over the top. It makes it difficult to pick a standout from the cast.

A Sitcom About Terrible People

Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenny, and Kaitlin Olson are hilarious and play the uniquely terrible characters Charlie, Dennis, Mac, and Dee, respectively. When you thought the cast couldn’t get any better, Season 2 introduces Danny DeVito as Frank, and the show is even more elevated from there. With the show firing on all cylinders like this, it’s unsurprising that it became the longest-running live-action American sitcom.

17 Seasons And Counting

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is approaching Season 17 and counting. The show has already been renewed through its 18th season, so there is plenty more It’s Always Sunny to come. The most recent season premiered in the summer, and the series is still receiving critical acclaim after all this time.

20 Years Of Turning Sitcoms On Their Head

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia first premiered back in 2005, which means that the show has now been on air for nearly 20 years. That’s an incredible feat for any show, especially a live-action sitcom. It’s even more impressive when the show can continue to be darkly hilarious throughout its entire run.

Never Too Late To Start Watching

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has achieved a massive cult following during its time on air and can continue to push comedic boundaries with each season. While the show frequently toes the line with controversial subjects, it does so masterfully and with the knowledge that its protagonists are supposed to be reprehensible. It’s a line that many shows can’t walk well, but It’s Always Sunny proves it can repeatedly.

So, if you’re looking for a new sitcom to watch, add It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to your list. There are plenty of episodes to watch so that you won’t run out anytime soon. Head over to the Hulu section of Disney+ to stream it now.
