Disney+ Comedy Anime Is The Funniest Series Of All Time

By Douglas Helm | Published

Looking for a wholesome, hilarious, and often action-packed anime to add to your watch list? Look no further than the Anime Award-winning Spy x Family, which is now streaming on Disney+. You can stream it on the Hulu section of Disney+ if you have access to both streaming services.

An Unconventional Family

Spy X Family follows the secret agent known only as Twilight, who must assemble a fake family for a secret mission where world peace is at stake. So, Twilight becomes Lloyd Forger and recruits a woman named Yor to pose as his wife and a little girl named Anya to pose as his daughter. Unbeknownst to him, Yor is actually a deadly assassin, and Anya is a telepath.

Anya Won Our Hearts Over

A lot of the humor in Spy x Family comes from the fact that none of the members of the fake family know each other’s secrets (save for Anya, who can read minds), but the series also has a ton of heart. The main trio is incredibly likable as they grow to care for each other as an actual family, despite the fact they were all assembled solely because of Lloyd’s mission. It helps that Anya is adorable and there’s little question why she won the “Must Protect At All Costs” Character award at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards this year.

If you like slice-of-life anime, comedy anime, and action anime, Spy x Family will give you the best of all three worlds. The heart and soul of the show is the Forger family, but Twilight’s mission to achieve world peace is also genuinely engaging. Seeing the show indulge in spy tropes is a lot of fun and makes the show that much more entertaining.

More Spy x Family On The Way

If you’ve never seen Spy x Family before, now is a great time to catch up. There are two full seasons to stream, so there is plenty to binge. Also, the recently released film Spy x Family: Code White is set to get a release in the United States on April 19.

Of course, the massive success of Spy x Family means there will undoubtedly be more on the way since there are more chapters of Tatsuya Endo’s manga to adapt. While the third season hasn’t been officially announced, most speculation puts the release date sometime near the end of 2024. If that’s the case, you have plenty of time to catch up on the series now.

A Video Game Coming Soon

In addition to an eventual third season and the film in April, Spy x Family is also getting its own video game. The game was already released for the Nintendo Switch in Japan, but the US will be getting access to the Switch, PS4, and PS5 versions of the game on June 28. The game is titled Spy x Anya: Operation Memories and lets players visit locations from the game, play minigames, and change character appearances as Anya Forger.

How To Stream Spy x Family

Overall, Spy x Family is one of the best anime out there right now, especially if you like comedy or slice-of-life. You’ll pretty much be hooked from the first episode, so you probably won’t need much convincing after that. Make sure to check it out on the Hulu section of Disney+ if you have access to both services.
