With the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 stated to be the final film in the series, many have wondered what this means for the Indiana Jones franchise as a whole? Will the series continue without Harrison Ford, or will the series simply conclude without any further iterations? Yet one old rumor refuses to die, as apparently, Lucasfilm would still like Chris Pratt to continue the Indiana Jones franchise in some iteration.

The continuation of this rumor comes from gossip writer Daniel Richtman’s Patreon. Richtman states that Lucasfilm wants Chris Pratt to play a younger version of Indiana Jones in some other project. This rumor has been around for years, ever since Chris Pratt appeared in Jurassic World looking very Indiana Jones-ian while holding off monstrous dinosaurs, and referenced Raiders of the Lost Ark in the opening moments of Guardians of the Galaxy. But despite the many years this rumor has had with no proof that Pratt would be taking over, the rumor continues to persist.

Chris Pratt has mentioned the speculation of him doing Indiana Jones, but he stated there was no information about his involvement. Even The LEGO Movie 2 poked fun of the rampant rumors Pratt might be playing Indiana Jones. However, Harrison Ford was a bit more decisive in who should play Indiana Jones when he visited the Today show in 2019, saying “Nobody is gonna be Indiana Jones! Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy.”

Yet there continue to be many questions as to how Indiana Jones as a series will continue after this fifth installment. Steven Spielberg has said that he would absolutely not be killing Indiana Jones in the fifth installment. Yet after directing the first four Indiana Jones films, Spielberg is stepping down for the fifth one, which will be directed by Ford v. Ferrari and Logan director James Mangold. But regardless of Mangold’s plans, it seems Spielberg will make sure Jones doesn’t die, leaving the path for Chris Pratt or someone else to take over the character.

Disney’s Bob Iger has hinted that he wants Indiana Jones to continue in some fashion, saying he doesn’t believe that the fifth film will be the conclusion to this series. Richtman also posted another rumor recently saying that Disney wants Harrison Ford for an Indiana Jones Disney+ series. Theoretically, Ford could play the older Jones, while Chris Pratt could play a younger version, although there’s no proof at all that his series is in the works. Plus, as Ford has said, he is Indiana Jones, and in his mind, no one else can play the character.

But Disney clearly has an affinity for Chris Pratt. Not only has Pratt starred in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, with several other installments on the way – including a holiday special – but he was a major part of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Pratt is even joining Thor: Love and Thunder as Star-Lord as well, and last year, Pratt was one of the main voices in the Pixar film Onward. With Pratt central to Universal’s Jurassic World franchise as well, it makes sense that Disney would want to claim Pratt as well for another action series. But as it stands it seems as though Harrison Ford is the only Indiana Jones there is, and if he gets his way, the character will die with him.
