Over in Tinsel Town, industry secrets are sometimes as thrilling as the movies themselves. But what could be better than a Hollywood secret and a new film starring Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth? Indeed, director Matthew Vaughn has managed to film an entire action movie under the radar—starring none other than Hemsworth and Sam Rockwell.

Chris Hemsworth Worked With The Director Of Kick-Ass

Action fans will know Vaughn from his work on impactful, beloved movies like Kick-Ass. However, he has moved from the director’s chair to handling production duties for this clandestine project, appropriately and currently labeled by the working title, Project X

The director-producer dished on the covert film mid-conversation with the folks over at the Happy Sad Confused podcast. While the film’s details are concealed, Vaughn’s excitement for the film featuring Chris Hemsworth was on full display. The filmmaker emphasized the movie’s uniqueness and potential to redefine the action genre.

Made With Input From The Stunt Team

Sounding almost like a gushing parent, Vaughn described Project X—which itself sounds like a government operation in a sci-fi flick—as a “very, very special movie.” He likened its potential impact to Kick-Ass’s.

The filmmaker underscored the groundbreaking nature of the production, detailing that it features heavy creative involvement from his team of stunt professionals, all of which ensures an exhilarating action film. Vaughn, of course, mentioned the benefits and, from the sound of it, the heavy involvement of Chris Hemsworth and Rockwell before alluding to intriguing cameos we can’t wait to see revealed.

Focus On The Danger Of Stunt Work

Expect Vaughn and Rockwell to enrich the movie with their artistic chemistry. After all, the two previously worked together on Argylle, in which Rockwell played a spy. Project X, however, will veer dramatically from the tenor of their prior endeavors; it focuses on the perils and thrills of stunt work.

The production encountered an unfortunate snag when one of its leading actors and stunt performers endured a severe injury—breaking his back in three places mid-stunt. Necessity is the mother of invention, however, and the incident was woven into the narrative of the mysterious Chris Hemsworth film. The accident showcases the real-life risks stunt performers face and thus further heightens the movie’s authenticity and originality.

Pushing The Action Genre Forward

Matthew Vaughn’s Project X is, if anything, a hyper-ambitious undertaking. The director aspires to push the action cinema envelope—mainly through the film’s impressive 56 action sequences, which should engage viewers via their innovation and intensity, if not their sheer number. His time as Thor was mostly stunts in front of a green screen, so it will be interesting to see if Chris Hemsworth shows off his practical stunt skills from Extraction.

Tribute To The Unsung Heroes Of Cinema

The film is also an admirable tribute to stunt workers, the unsung heroes of the film industry who risk life and limb to make movie magic possible. Beyond merely showcasing their breathtaking stunts, the film rightly locates their story in the forefront. It should end up offering a fresh perspective on the action genre.

Plus, with the (secret) involvement of Chris Hemsworth, what could go wrong? And even if Thor were to have never contributed his hammer to the production, the film is still being made by the director behind X-Men: First Class and Kingsman, after all—so it should be in good hands.
