It is hard to believe that 2010 was over a decade ago, but it seems that we will get to relive our past with an upcoming sequel that is set to premiere on Peacock. Brad Pitt voiced the iconic superhero, Metro Man, in the successful animated film titled Megamind. For fans of the movie, they will be able to see some of the characters return, including Megamind himself. The earlier success of the film and well-written characters have now led to a sequel that will air on one of the top streaming sites.

Megamind was released in theaters in 2010 with a budget of $130 million from Dreamworks Animation. The animated film raked in a grand total of around $320 million, which shows that the characters were definitely beloved. Brad Pitt voiced one of the main characters, Metro Man. Metro Man was a superhero and Megamind’s former nemesis. In the film, Megamind defeats Metro Man but upon feeling lost and sad due to the fact that Megamind had no superhero to defeat, the supervillain created another superhero with Metro Man’s DNA.

However, the new hero created in Brad Pitt’s absence becomes a frightening villain that Megamind has to fight against in order to save the city. According to Deadline, the name of the upcoming series will be titled Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City. The series will follow what happened to Megamind after he saved Metro City in the first film. And the series will have a rather modern twist with Megamind acting as an influencer and filming his steps on becoming a superhero.

Although it is still a bit uncertain which other characters will be returning to the series, like Brad Pitt’s Metro Man or Jonah Hill’s Hal Stewart, a few other familiar names will be assisting in the production of the show. According to Comic Book, the original writers of the 2010 movie, Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, are now executive producers on the streaming series. According to Collider, Megamind isn’t the only Dreamworks film that is getting a sequel. The 2019 animation, Abominable, will also be getting a spinoff series called Abominable and the Invisible City. Peacock has been trying to reach a wider range of audiences, such as a younger crowd. These spinoff series based on classic animations will definitely draw a big crowd.

Megamind was a great success when it was first released, and now fans can buckle up to see their favorite villain turned superhero back on the screen. There is no official release date of when the series will air, but so far, we know that the streaming series will be accessible to watch on Peacock.

Since the show is still in its production stages, there is still more time to get updates if Brad Pitt or other original actors will return and take part in the project. Pitt seems to have a love of voice acting, and has voiced other characters in other films such as Happy Feet, so we can keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, Megamind can currently be watched on streaming platforms such as IMDB TV.
