Stars of several Disney+ shows have found success and fame through established canons like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise, including on series like Loki, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison is one of those people, appearing on The Book of Boba Fett as the titular character beginning in 2021, as well as on several other television shows in the Star Wars universe like The Madalorian and Star Wars: Visions. Now, it appears that Temuera Morrison has just been cast in the limited series Chief of War, which will costar Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, and takes place in Momoa’s homeland of Hawaii.

According to a report by Deadline, actor Temuera Morrison has officially been cast to costar in Chief of War for AppleTV+, a limited series for the streamer that will star Jason Momoa, who also wrote and will executive produce the project. Jason Momoa and Temuera Morrison both worked together on the 2018 DC Extended Universe film Aquaman, where Momoa played the titular character of Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, while Morrison embodied Arthur’s father, Thomas Curry. The two will also reunite on the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, alongside franchise actors Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, and Dolph Lundgren, and Morrison will reprise his character again in the upcoming Ezra Miller spin-off, The Flash.

Co-created by Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, Chief of War is an eight episode limited series that will detail the colonization of Hawaii from the perspective of the indigenous people, resulting in a unification and epic story. The 18th century historical drama has so far only cast Momoa and Temuera Morrison in unidentified roles at this time, and filming is apparently taking place in Temuera’s native New Zealand on the Bay of Islands, which is supposed to fill in for Hawaii in the show. Justin Chon, who is best known for his acting work in the Twilight series of films, as well as directing 2021’s Blue Bayou starring Alicia Vikander has been tapped to direct two of the eight episodes of Chief of War for AppleTV+.

61 year-old Temuera Morrison has had a storied career in television and in film, initially gaining attention for his work on soap operas in New Zealand and embarking on a journey in New Zealand films like 1994’s Once Were Warriors and the 1999 drama What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?. He broke into the Star Wars franchise when he appeared as Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones for George Lucas, then proceeding to play Boba Fett in several iterations of the franchise, including voicing the character in the 2004 re-release of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. While closely associated with Star Wars and the DC Extended Universe, Morrison has appeared in several other well-known films, such as Dora and the Lost City of Gold with Eva Longoria and voicing the character of Chief Tui in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana.
