In the most recent news regarding live-action adaptations of gaming titles, Variety reports that CD Projekt RED has announced a live-action project set in the world of the popular sci-fi video game Cyberpunk 2077. It’s really refreshing, especially among gamers older than the original PlayStation, to see that the world of live-action and animated adaptations of video game titles has taken a turn for the better because Cyberpunk 2077 definitely deserves a top-quality live-action adaptation.

The Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation will be made with Anonymous Content, the media company credited with releases such as True Detective, Mr. Robot, The Revenant, and Spotlight.

Unfortunately for the fans of one of the most infamous titles in gaming, CD Projekt RED shared virtually no details regarding the upcoming adaptation. So, as things are right now, we have no idea whether they’re discussing a television/streaming series or a live-action feature film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

However, during their announcement, CD Projekt RED (CDRP) stated that the adaptation would be made with Anonymous Content, the media company credited with releases such as True Detective, Mr. Robot, The Revenant, and Spotlight.

That doesn’t shine any light on the situation, but it doesn’t change the fact that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is very welcome among gaming and action enthusiasts. Judging by the fact that the narrative will be set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, it’s almost certain that the release won’t be a direct adaptation of the game’s narrative but rather a standalone work, much like Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners web anime, and the IP’s first novel, Cyberpunk 2077: No Coincidence.

Cyberpunk 2077 remains one of gaming’s most interesting titles.

The fandom would really like to see a direct adaptation with all the fan-favorite characters, including V and Johnny. However, it would seem that CDRP is looking to expand the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and (presumably) Night City, and given the previously released content across several media, there’s plenty of source material to make a television series within the IP.

Considering the rising popularity of television adaptations in both live-action and animated formats and the fact that CDPR already has a working relationship with Netflix, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a live-action series.

This is where the company might want to take a step back and do some thinking before another catastrophe occurs. CDPR has already collaborated with Netflix on The Witcher series, and considering the state of that particular show, the fandom remains skeptical of such partnerships.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently one of the most played games across all major gaming platforms

No such thing has been announced yet anyway, and we’re diving heavily into the realm of speculation, so please ingest this information with a grain of salt as a prescription against disappointment when and if something like that becomes public.

Cyberpunk 2077 remains one of gaming’s most interesting titles. It spent more than eight years in active development, after which CD Projekt RED released a game that seldomly worked on both home video game consoles and the PC platform, leading to massive controversies, class-action lawsuits, and seemingly empty promises from the developer that it will make the game better.

However, those promises were all but empty, and CDRP didn’t only fix the game, but it also polished it to near-perfection and dropped a DLC expansion called Phantom Liberty.

Needless to say, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently one of the most played games across all major gaming platforms, and considering that the industry has made strides when it comes to adapting games into live-action or animated narratives, it’s most definitely a gaming title deserving of an adaptation.
