Austin Powers 4: What Mike Myers Is Planning

Austin Powers 4

Close to two decades. That’s how long it’s been since we last saw Mike Myers don his Austin Powers and Dr. Evil personas. But according to the star, number 4 is in the works. According to the franchise director, Jay Roach, an Austin Powers 4 could “make people want to go back to the theater.” Is he right and will there be a fourth entry for the International Man of Mystery?

Here’s everything we know about Austin Powers 4.

PLANNING AUSTIN POWERS 4

Austin Powers 4

Just the thought of a possible Austin Powers 4 has fans smiling. The three previous films in the franchise, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Austin Powers in Goldmember, were huge hits, sending series creator Mike Myers star even further into the stratosphere. While his star has pretty much flamed out since then, there are still many out there who would not mind another helping of Austin Powers and his nemesis, Dr. Evil.

Count Roach as one who wants more. He told Movieweb, “We talk about it once a month,” he said referring to Myers, “but until we know what it specifically wants to be. I don’t disagree that there is a classic battle in the Austin films, that of sort of love versus fear and paranoia, and color versus colorlessness, and music versus fear. Dr. Evil, there are some aspects of the way the world works right now that seem very Dr. Evil-y to me. I’ll just put it that way. But no, we don’t have a specific plan for anything right now.” This was back in March, so plans could have changed and advanced since that time.

Talk of a fourth has been ongoing for nearly a decade and as Roach adds, he is rooting big time for the return of Powers in Austin Powers 4. He just says that it will always be up to Mike Myers. “I root for it too. I root for it to come back, and so does Mike. We all have for a long time, it’s just always been, when the right story comes up and we know what it is, and that’s pretty much up to Mike.”

THE PLOT OF AUSTIN POWERS 4

Scott Evil

When we last saw our groovy hero, Austin Powers was fighting the likes of Goldmember with none other than Beyoncé. The end of the movie saw Seth Green’s Scott Evil take over the mantle left by Dr. Evil, vowing revenge on Austin Powers.

So, the door is open, more stories can be told, Mike Myers and his cast of characters just need to walk through the Austin Powers 4 door. Sadly, though, we know for certain one character will not return.

SMALL PERSON, HUGE LOSS

Mini Me

Back in April of 2018, Hollywood endured a big loss with the passing of Mini-Me, Verne Troyer. “To be honest, I don’t know how we’d do it without Verne,” Roach told The Independent. “We always had ideas of revealing a whole life that he had that would have taken his character much further. If Mike cracks it and figures it out, we would definitely do some kind of tribute to him. I’m there if he ever wants to do it.”

This is not saying Austin Powers 4 can’t happen, just that it would be difficult to move forward. Roach did say a fourth movie would have had Mini-Me play a significant role.

RETURNING CAST

Austin Powers 4

In addition to Mike Myers returning, chances are you’d definitely see the return of Seth Green as Scott Evil in Austin Powers 4. You’d also more than likely see the return of Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina. Other than that, who knows.

Robert Wagner as Number Two is closing in on 90 years old, Michael York as Basil Exposition is a bit younger at 78 so that may be a possibility. As for a female counterpart to Austin Powers, there are many to choose from. But who wouldn’t love to see Elizabeth Hurley somehow make her way back into the fold for Austin Powers 4?

The wonderful thing about the Austin Powers movies, besides the comedy, is that there is plenty of material that Mike Myers and Jay Roach can choose from to parody. Most material Myers goes after, obviously, relates to James Bond and even after three Powers movies, there is plenty of material left for Myers to pick from.
