Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s Murder Mystery 2 hit Netflix, and the two apparently went through some pain to bring us the sequel. Speaking to Variety, Sandler said he had to get hip replacement surgery after filming saying “My god damn hip, I had to change that at the end of the movie,” adding “I did ’Spaceman’ and I was hanging in harness all the time,” and “I kept saying, ‘Something’s going on with my hip, man. I’m in trouble.’” While Sandler praised Aniston for being in good shape and being able to handle the filming for the movie, it turns out she had back issues at the end of filming too saying “I had a back injury about three years ago, and it got really pissed off when I was in the harness.”

Despite doing some stunts the director described as “Tom Cruise kind of stuff” it doesn’t seem like things got too bad for the actors and they both seem like they’re back in the saddle. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston starred together in Murder Mystery back in 2019, which Netflix was apparently pleased enough with to greenlight a sequel. The film sees Aniston and Sandler’s characters working to get their private eye agency off the ground, leading them to get caught up in an international abduction case.

Along with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, the film stars Mark Strong, Melanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, John Kani, Kuhoo Verma, Dany Boon, Adeel Akhtar, Enrique Arce, Zurin Villanueva, and Jillian Bell. Jeremy Garelick directs from the screenplay by James Vanderbilt. As mentioned, you can now check out the film on Netflix if you were a fan of the first one.

Although Adam Sandler may get the occasional injury from making films for Netflix, their relationship has been incredibly fruitful for both parties otherwise. Sandler made six movies for Netflix under his Happy Madison production banner before 2020, and Netflix was apparently pleased enough to sign him on for at least four more movies with a $275 million deal. The first of those films was Hubie Halloween which hit the streamer back in 2020.

Adam Sandler followed that up with the critically acclaimed sports drama Hustle. Sandler is also working on an animated feature for Netflix titled Leo, which follows two elementary school pets who decided to escape their terrariums. The film stars Sandler and co-stars Stephanie Hsu, Bill Burr, Jason Alexander, Cecily Strong, Rob Schneider, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Heidi Gardner, Nicholas Turturro, and Nick Swardson.

If everything sticks to its planned schedule, we should see two more Adam Sandler Netflix films before the end of the year. The aforementioned Leo is expected to come out in November, and the drama Spaceman is expected to come out in 2023 as well. Spaceman follows an orphan boy in the Czech countryside who ends up becoming the country’s first astronaut.

Perhaps the most anticipated film on Adam Sandler’s docket is his next currently untitled collaboration with the Safdie Brothers. The last time Sandler worked with the Safdie Brothers he turned in one of his best performances in the frenetic Uncut Gems. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on this and other upcoming Sandler projects.
