While most of us are sick of this summer’s extreme temperatures, The Boys star Erin Moriarty is embracing the heat, in just about the only place you can: Palm Springs, California. The 28-year-old actress, who plays Annie January/Starlight on the Amazon Prime Video superhero series, took to her Instagram account over the weekend to share a picture of herself in Palm Springs wearing a sundress with thin straps, with actress and friend Nesta Cooper (star of the AppleTV+ series SEE) at her side. “A weekend in 100 degree heat immersed in stellar co. does the soul good,” she wrote alongside of several photos of her enjoying dinner and a pool with friends.
While Erin Moriarty basks in the summer sun, she’s also basking in the success of the third season of The Boys, which dropped on Prime Video in early June and has been a ratings hit for the streaming service. With new cast member Jensen Ackles making waves as Soldier Boy, and several controversial episodes, fans are still talking about everything that transpired. One episode, titled “Herogasm” (episode 3.6) was so controversial and traumatizing, even cast member Antony Starr (who plays Homelander) refuses to watch it. If you’ve seen the episode, then you know why. Moriarty herself warned fans about the content in the orgy-themed episode, and even posted “Told u” afterward.
Palm Springs is a far cry from her home town of New York City, but Erin Moriarty has come a long way in her career as well. She got her start in acting at the age of 16, appearing as Whitney Bennett in the soap opera One Life to Live. That led to supporting roles in a number of TV shows and films, including ABC’s Red Widow with Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black) and HBO’s True Detective. She really began to turn heads in 2015, with a role in Netflix’s Marvel series Jessica Jones. After that, roles in Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings) and Blood Father with Mel Gibson put her on the road to stardom. Her casting in 2019 in The Boys is her biggest role to date.
Although Erin Moriarty posts lots of pictures from the set of her projects, and from her home, she doesn’t divulge many details about her personal life. She had dated actor Jacob Artist (Glee) back in 2013, but they had reportedly separated. However, just five days ago, she posted video on Instagram from her home showing Artist sitting on a balcony. She even tagged him in the video, so she wasn’t hiding his presence, sparking rumors that they are back together. It also seemed to squash rumors that she was dating her Boys co-star Antony Starr.
Two big projects are coming from Erin Moriarty. She’s completed filming on True Haunting, the true story of the first-ever televised exorcism on NBC in 1971, and how the family involved was traumatized by it. It also stars Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things) and will released in 2023. She also has another film, Catching Dust, a drama starring Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys), that releases next year as well. Of course, Amazon Prime Video has renewed The Boys for season four, after ratings showed a more than 200% increase in viewership from season one. That means there will be plenty of Erin to go around for the next couple of years.
