Between their inception in 1994 and the day they called it quits in 2021, Daft Punk released 90 songs across multiple albums and one soundtrack. The French electronic music duo were iconic in the dance and French house genres and their departure from the limelight has left a hole that has not quite been filled by any other artists. However, those who miss the robot-costumed duo can rejoice, as Pitchfork reports that the pair will be premiering a previously-unreleased song, “Infinity Repeating,” at Paris’ Pompidou Center on May 11.

“Infinity Repeating” will be released as part of the 10th-anniversary reissue of Random Access Memories which came out in 2013. Daft Punk worked on the album between 2008 and 2012, and “Infinity Repeating” was recorded during that time period. No information has been given as to why the track was not included in the original album.

During the 17 years that Daft Punk was together, they released four studio albums, along with a soundtrack album for the movie Tron: Legacy. Of those albums, Random Access Memories was by far the most successful. It reached the number one chart position in France, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States.

“Infinity Repeating” features vocals by singer-songwriter Julian Casablancas, the vocalist for the American rock band The Strokes. Casablancas also worked with Daft Punk on the song “Instant Crush,” providing not only vocals but also a guitar solo for the song. Casablancas’ Collaboration with Daft Punk made Casablancas a co-recipient of the 2013 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Besides “Infinity Repeating,” the 10th-anniversary rerelease will include other tracks that weren’t included in the original release of Random Access Memories. This includes the documentary-style track “The Writing of Fragments Of Time,” released this February, which features audio of the Daft Punk duo discussing how to create the song “Fragments Of Time.” Other new tracks include a raw version of the song “Give Life Back to Music” titled “GLBTM (Studio Outtake)’, and the vocoder tests for the song “Lose Yourself to Dance.”

Although Daft Punk stayed together for a full eight years after Random Access Memories came out, the duo never released another album. They were relatively dormant during that time period, only performing twice in the intervening years — once at the Mezzanine in San Francisco in 2014, and another time at the 59th Grammys in 2017.

According to Thomas Bangalter, half of the Daft Punk duo, the two broke up because they wanted to move away from their robotic personas. He voiced fear about how much humanity is leaning into technologies like artificial intelligence. He said that the last thing he would want to be in 2023 is a robot.

The 10th-anniversary reissue of Random Access Memories will come out on May 12, one day after Daft Punk premieres “Infinity Repeating.” The album, which will be released on both a vinyl set of 3 LPs and a double CD. The Vinyl set will include a 16-page booklet and a “Lose Yourself to Dance” booklet, while the double CD will include a 20-page booklet.
