Felicity Jones is best known for her role as Jyn Erso in the Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016. Her co-star, Diego Luna, famously returned to his role of Cassian Andor in the prequel series Andor, raising the question of whether Jones will return to her role in Andor’s second season. Unfortunately for fans of Rogue OneThe Direct reports that she will not be appearing in Season 2, though she is hopeful that she will be able to appear in a future Star Wars show or film.

I’m afraid to say I won’t be, but I still have hope for Jyn Erso at some point to make a comeback. But no, sadly I won’t be.

Felicity Jones on appearing in Andor Season 2

Felicity Jones revealed this disappointing news while being interviewed on The One Show on BBC to promote Dead Shot, the upcoming action thriller that co-stars The Maze Runner actor Aml Ameen and Merlin star Colin Morgan. The movie, set in the 1970s, follows a retired Irish paramilitary who seeks revenge after a British SAS officer kills his wife. The film is set to release on May 12, 2023.

However, despite Dead Shot being the focus of the interview, it didn’t take long for the BBC to ask Felicity Jones about Andor, given her most famous character’s connection to the series. She had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Jyn Erso has “unfinished business,” which led to speculation that she would return.

However, despite Star Wars’ current penchant for shoving as many familiar characters into a TV series as possible, it’s easy to see why it would be difficult for Andor to find a way to bring Felicity Jones back into the series. In Rogue One, Jyn Erso had never met Cassian Andor before their meeting on the moon of Yavin 4 in the film. Unless the show were to fabricate a new meeting that Erso had somehow forgotten, there’s no way to have the two characters interact.

Also, despite Felicity Jones’ desire to return to the Star Wars universe, it would be very difficult to bring her back in a film that takes place after Rogue One. Her character, along with all the other main characters in Rogue One, heroically died at the end of the film in their quest to deliver the Death Star plans to Princess Leia. Even though Jones’s comments to The Hollywood Reporter noted that characters can be “reincarnated” in the Star Wars universe, it seems doubtful that they’d bring her back from the dead, considering the backlash against bringing Emperor Palpatine back in Rise of Skywalker.

No, if Felicity Jones ever returns to Star Wars, it will have to be in a prequel, not one that directly involves Cassian Andor. A large portion of Jyn Erso’s life goes unaccounted for in Rogue One, so it wouldn’t be too hard for writers to come up with interesting stories about the character. There’s even a book, Rebel Rising, written about her pre-Rogue One adventures, making there ample source material to work from — though whether those stories will ever make it onto film or Disney+ is anyone’s guess.
