Glen Powell is continuing to shoot for the sky as Deadline reports that the Top Gun: Maverick star is in talks to appear opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters, the follow-up story to 1996’s classic hit, Twister. Lee Isaac Chung (The Mandalorian) has been tapped to lend his directorial vision to the production, with The Revenant and The Midnight Sky writer Mark L. Smith penning the script. The Devotion star has been absolutely killing it as of late, with fans stoked for the multitude of projects he has on the horizon.

As of right now, no specific details surrounding Twisters have been released, with the film’s plot being kept on the hush-hush. If it’s anything like the original, audiences can expect Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and the rest of the cast to be on an adrenaline-packed thrill ride in search of one of nature’s most deadly phenomena. The Jan De Bont (Speed) directed flick starred names like Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, and Anthony Rapp and was executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

Judging by the over $494 million the original film deposited in the bank from the worldwide box office, we guess that fans will happily flock to theaters to catch the next chapter in the story. With Glen Powell being one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood at this time, it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone why he’ll likely pick this title as his next project.

While he’s appeared in several other projects over the years including opposite Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis in the gone-too-soon Fox series, Scream Queens, and in the rom-com Set It Up, it was this last year that Glen Powell’s star really took off. The actor landed the role of a lifetime when he was cast in a stellar lineup that included Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick. A box office phenomenon, the film was one of the year’s biggest earners, with audiences singing the praise of a sequel over three decades in the making.

He also made a splash alongside MCU and Creed III star Jonathan Majors in the biographical war film, Devotion. While the film didn’t come close to achieving the numbers that Maverick did, it was widely celebrated by critics and audiences for the leading men’s performances. It would also mark a shift in Glen Powell’s career as he added “executive producer” to his resumé.

Next up, Glen Powell is set to appear in Richard Linklater’s action-comedy Hitman, another title that the actor will co-produce and one that he co-penned alongside Linklater. Teaming up with a fellow up-and-comer, Powell will be appearing opposite Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney in an unnamed romantic comedy that’s currently in production. Lastly, the actor is signed on for a Universal sci-fi thriller titled Deputy X and will be BFFs with Nick Jonas in the buddy comedy feature, Foreign Relations.

With his breakout success in 2022, Glen Powell is a great name to have on any filmmaker’s call sheet. Tying in the fact that his last sequel (Maverick) was hailed as one of the year’s best features, it’s almost a complete certainty that Twisters will blow the box office away.
