Just when you think she’s out, they pull her right back in! Actor Neve Campbell made headlines recently when it was announced that she would not be featured as her iconic character of Sidney Prescott in the sixth film of the Scream franchise. This move would make it the first film in the horror series not to feature Campbell’s character. In a shocking turn of events for horror fans everywhere, there are now rumors that Neve Campbell may, in fact, return for Scream 6, despite hesitation from the actor initially and broken down contract negotiations.

According to a report by CBR.com, Neve Campbell is back in talks with producers of Scream 6 after the bombshell news that she had pulled out of the project. Giant Freakin Robot had reported on Campbell quitting the Scream franchise last month due to salary negotiations that failed to produce an acceptable amount for the actor. She was offered what she deemed too low of a salary for the sequel and apparently called Spyglass Media Group’s bluff by exiting the franchise. The rumor mill was sparked this week because of a tweet sent by ViewerAnon, an often reliable source for all Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe rumors.

The tweet sent out on Wednesday by ViewerAnon noted that the rumors are true about Neve Campbell returning to Scream 6, but the real news is that she’s evidently making a bigger splash in the seventh film of the franchise. This news came after long-time Scream cast-mate David Arquette saw his days numbered when his character Dewey Riley was killed off in the fifth installment of the series. According to CinemaBlend, Courteney Cox became the only original cast member to return to the franchise when she inked a deal to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in Scream 6 until now, it seems.

As of this writing, it doesn’t appear that Neve Campbell herself has confirmed if the rumors of her return to Scream 6 are true. Nevertheless, she has seen an outpouring of support amongst her coworkers past and present. In a piece written by People as an example, Scream actors Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy came to Campbell’s defense precisely because the actor asked for a salary she believed she was owed for playing such an iconic role. To date, the main returning actors confirmed for Scream 6 that have already appeared in the franchise before have been Cox, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Melissa Barrera. The newest film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who took on directing duties for Scream 5 in addition to their stellar work on 2019’s Ready or Not. The plot is not fully known at this time, but audiences may see their favorite characters from Scream 5 move from Woodsboro to New York City. The sixth installment is set to premiere in March 2023.
