It seems Sir Patrick Stewart is appeasing Marvel studio execs while keeping an “I know nothing” stance to the question on everyone’s mind: Was that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in the trailer for the most talked about upcoming film this Spring,  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? While most of the world is pretty sure it was the renowned actor seen briefly in the trailer, it still would be nice to get confirmation. But if Spider-Man: No Way Home taught us anything, it is that we are likely not going to receive any form of confirmation before the movie’s May 4th release.  However, that isn’t stopping Patrick Stewart from commenting on the matter, and recently, he answered the question on everyone’s mind in the most hilarious manner only the Star Trek veteran could have pulled off.

See Patrick Stewart’s response below:

Patrick Stewart was recently interviewed by Ethan Alter, a senior writer for Yahoo Entertainment. After speaking with the X-Men alumni, Alter shared a small clip from his discussion with the 81-year-old actor. Captioning the Tweet as the “perfect response”, Alter asks the question everyone has been wondering: Was that “your” voice in the Doctor Strange trailer? Stoic as ever, Stewart seemingly thinks about his response to the big question for a split second before responding with three simple words that posed another question, “Who’s Doctor Strange?”

With only three words, Patrick Stewart gave the most inimitable response an actor that may or may not be tied to secrecy can. On one hand, the actor coyishly could have been playing a joke on his old age. But more likely, it was a bold play on the fanbase, as the actor pretended to know nothing of the project we all know he likely was a part of. The answer was very reminiscent of that of No Way Home’s Spider-Man variants played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The two Peter Parker actors were rumored to be in the now released threequel film long before Stewart’s Professor X’s appearance was rumored. And in the period leading up to Spider-Mans recent release, the two actors were constantly questioned on their appearance in the film. Garfield adamantly denied appearing in the film when asked, but Maguire on the other hand took an approach more similar to Stewart’s.

The brief response from Patrick Stewart wasn’t the first documented depiction of the Golden Globe-nominated actor responding to the viral rumors regarding his appearance in Doctor Strange 2. Last week, he spoke with Jamie Lovett of ComicBook and was asked the same question. In perfect Picard manner, Steward effortlessly seemed to evade the question when he responded: “You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.” And while we are sure there are plenty of people capable of closely mimicking the Picard star’s distinct voice, the fact remains that it simply wouldn’t make sense for the MCU to tease a character with the same exact voice and tone of Professor X as played by Stewart himself.

Luckily, fans don’t have much longer to wait for confirmation on Patrick Stewarts’ involvement in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel film will land in theatres on May 4th and is expected to once again open the multiverse and reveal new characters, and possibly more fan-favorite returns. Another recent rumor suggests Blade might also make a resurgence-and, not through the new actor slated to renew the Marvel franchise, but via Wesley Snipes-who we also may have seen alongside Patrick Stewart in the trailer.
