Jake Gyllenhaal In Talks For Patrick Swayze Reboot
Jake Gyllenhaal is looking at rebooting a Patrick Swayze classic.

The collective film world has been chock full of reboots for years on end, and some have been more well-received than others. However, anytime that Jake Gyllenhaal is mentioned in a project, ears begin to perk up. That is now the case, as it’s been announced that MGM will be handling a reboot of the popular Patrick Swayze film, Roadhouse, with Gyllenhaal being tapped to star.
Roadhouse was released in 1989, and the film follows the life of Dalton, a “no-nonsense” bar bouncer that is hired to clean up one of the most infamous bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. Upon his arrival, Dalton finds the town to be controlled by a shady businessman, and he finds he must clean up more than just a rowdy bar. Patrick Swayze stars in this picture alongside Hollywood legend, Sam Elliot. There are no indications that this reboot will follow the same exact storyline, having Jake Gyllenhaal play the character of Dalton, or if he will simply be a brand new character that exists in the same world. One thing is for sure, everyone will want to see Gyllenhaal deliver a roundhouse kick to some rowdy patrons.
Doug Liman has been selected to direct this new version of Roadhouse, and there are sure to be even more outlandish fight scenes happening in the film. Liman has directed such action films as Edge of Tomorrow, Jumper, and The Bourne Identity, while also producing The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Bourne Supremacy. Liman’s style is similar in nature to that of Guy Ritchie and Michael Bay, with who Jake Gyllenhaal has worked recently.
Both Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal are busy with other projects currently, but the reboot of Roadhouse is said to be a “high priority.” Gyllenhaal’s next film is with the aforementioned Michael Bay, and is called Ambulance. The film is an action thriller that follows two friends in a bank heist. With Michael Bay at the helm, expect a ton of fireworks. Gyllenhaal is then slated to team up with Guy Ritchie for a film called, The Interpreter. It would appear that Jake Gyllenhaal is the man to call for action films right now.
Liman is currently working on a film about Mount Everest, that is aptly titled, Everest. He is then directing an untitled film about space that stars Tom Cruise. The interesting thing about this new film is that this will be the first time that a major motion picture is actually shot in space. Universal has apparently already picked this film up in a lucrative deal.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman seem to be a match made in heaven, and once the two can finally get together to start to film this new version of Roadhouse, some might be asking themselves how they went so long without rebooting such a popular film. Patrick Swayze was one of the biggest stars in the 1980s, and the same can be said for Jake Gyllenhaal currently. Hopefully, Roadhouse can come kicking into theaters in early 2023.
