Brie Larson And Emilia Clarke Emerge As Front-Runners To Play Sarah Connor In Terminator 5

The summer of 2015 is already scheduled to be full to bursting with sequels, reboots, and adaptations. A few of the big name titles include The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, and the Man of Steel sequel where Superman fights Ben Affleck and now Wonder Woman. The blockbuster movie season will also feature a new addition to the Terminator franchise. Plot details surrounding Terminator 5 are scarce, but we know that Sarah Connor will appear, and now two frontrunners for the part have emerged in the form of Brie Larson and Emilia Clarke.
Larson and Clarke, along with Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), all auditioned for the part of a young Sarah Connor. Deadline reports that Larson and Clarke have emerged from the pack for the part. Both actresses are in their mid-20s, around the same age as Linda Hamilton when she first played the character in the original 1984 original.
Larson is having a great 2013. Her award-worthy performance in the indie drama Short Term 12 is magnificent. Clarke, on the other hand, is busy kicking ass in her role as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s fantasy Game of Thrones. Considering that Terminator 5’s unofficial director is Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), who has also helmed a bunch of Game of Thrones, that could indicate that Clarke could have an edge over Larson.
The article also reports that the John Connor and Kyle Reese characters will also be featured in Terminator 5. Boyd Holbrook (The Host), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) have all been linked to John Connor, while Taylor Kitsch (Battleship) and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past) could be up for the Reese role. If these castings hold, John is somehow older than his mother, but the same age as his father. This is part of why many believe that time travel could play a big role. I say bring back everyone from the franchise. I want to see Nick Stahl, Sam Worthington, Edward Furlong, and Claire Danes all running around onscreen.
Another prevalent rumor is that Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson could be cast as the latest robotic killing machine. If this is the case, then Johnson will likely go head-to-head against Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has been confirmed for the film. That is a clash to look forward to.
Terminator 5 could be a prequel to the first film, and be set in the 1940s or ’50s. The narrative might follow Sarah Connor’s parents, who, like their daughter before (sort of) them, are now targeted for termination courtesy of yet another mechanized killer. If this is the case, Skynet certainly has a predictable strategy. In this scenario, Schwarzenegger would allegedly play their human protector.
Screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier are tasked with writing the film’s script. Kalogridis’ wrote Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, as well as the maybe-one-day-we’ll-actually-see-it Battle Angel for James Cameron. Lussier wrote and directed both Dracula 2000 and Drive Angry, so he knows how to make things crazy.
