Star Wars star and full-fledged cultural icon Carrie Fisher has reportedly checked into a hospital to receive treatment for her bipolar disorder.

Late last week, a video of a peculiar performance from the 56-year-old actress and screenwriter started making the rounds on the Internet. Taken aboard a Holland America cruise ship sailing the Caribbean, the footage shows Fisher, who appears to be drunk, belting out a couple of off-key numbers. All the while, she’s cleaning up after her French Bulldog who uses the stage as a restroom, never skipping a beat.

Fisher has been open and honest about her struggle the mood disorder, where causes patients to vacillate between severe manic and depressive states. She has even talked about it publicly in a number of forums, including with Diane Sawyer and Oprah Winfrey.

Taken alone, this video is one thing, but in context of her mental illness, the footage of her manic state is pretty harrowing.

Initially, many viewers assumed Fisher was drunk or on something else, but her people insist that the former drug addict was not intoxicated in any way. Her reps told TMZ, “There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder. She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now.”

A spokesman was unsure if Fisher would return to the cruise ship, but let’s be honest, that’s probably the least of her worries at the moment. We all wish her quick recovery, especially if those Episode VII rumors are true.
