Every X-Men ’97 Finale Cameo Identified, See Each One In Action

X-Men ‘97 recently aired its Season 1 finale, and that means fans have to wait a depressingly long time to see where the merry mutants’ time-hopping adventures will take them in season two. Fortunately, the ep left fans with plenty to chew on, blending great storytelling with cameos from some fan-favorite characters. If you missed some of those appearances, true believers, we’ve got you covered: here’s our definitive breakdown of every X-Men ‘97 finale cameo.

Our first cameo is Silver Samurai: the noble warrior is standing vigil over Japan when Xavier takes control of Magneto’s mind and restores power to the planet. Next, we see Iron Man and Captain America nervously watching global events unfold along with President Robert Kelley. In a later scene, we also see Cap take off his mask, revealing Steve Rogers’ chiseled jaw (that’s America’s face right there).

Another X-Men ‘97 finale cameo is hard to miss: we see Doctor Stephen Strange combining his talents and using his mystical powers in order to perform surgery on a patient. In a very fun scene, we also see Daredevil working hard to stop some looters from taking advantage of the unfolding chaos. The Man Without Fear later takes a blast from a Prime Sentinel, and he is joined by Cloak and Dagger when all of them watch those Sentinels shut down.

One thing about these X-Men ‘97 finale cameos is that we were surprised to see which characters were willing to go down fighting and which were not.

Speaking of Prime Sentinels, we see Red Guardian, Darkstar, and Omega Red (better known to comics nerds as members of The Winter Guard) battling these enhanced humans. Black Panther similarly battles a group of Sentinels as they attack Wakanda. We also see Wakanda’s King T’Chaka (very much still alive in this continuity) trying to talk the president out of activating The Magneto Protocols and launching missiles at Asteroid M.

One thing about these X-Men ‘97 finale cameos is that we were surprised to see which characters were willing to go down fighting and which were not. For example, members of Alpha Flight (including Aurora, Puck, Frenzy, Northstar, and even Psylocke) are shown fighting the Prime Sentinels, and this is about the last superhero group we expected to see onscreen. Meanwhile, we see Spider-Man out of costume as Peter Parker, standing alongside Mary Jane and even a lurking Flash Thompson as they sadly watch the downright apocalyptic news unfold.

If you missed any of these great X-Men ‘97 finale cameos, that means you have a perfect excuse to rewatch this amazing episode.

Of course, Morph and the rest of our X-Men ‘97 main cast don’t have much choice in whether to fight, and the shapeshifter delivers two fun cameos by appearing as both Mr. Fantastic and Sauron. Less fun are the cameos by Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Polaris in Magneto’s mindscape. These are, respectively, his son and two daughters, and they serve as symbolic reminders of Magneto’s haunted past and the fact that everyone is fighting their own inner battle.

If you missed any of these great X-Men ‘97 finale cameos, that means you have a perfect excuse to rewatch this amazing episode. Considering how many times this show has surprised us, you never know when one of these cameos may be a clue for what to expect in season two. Unless a mysterious force sweeps us into the future, though, we won’t know what happens next until Disney delivers more of this uncanny, amazing, and astonishing show.
