Speaking with CinemaBlend, Tom Hiddleston said that Flanagan’s take on The Life of Chuck will have “the same warmth, same spirit” as Stephen King’s novel, The Shawshank Redemption. Referring to The Shawshank Redemption as on his “top five favorite films of all time” list, Hiddleston also says that it was a pivotal movie in his growth as an actor during his early teen years. While it has all the makings of a classic King story, he says that it also threw in “a warmth and a strength of spirit and a kind of overarching philosophy that is resolutely on the side of life and love that’s at the center of that story.”

While The Life of Chuck marks the first time that Tom Hiddleston and Mike Flanagan have joined forces, it certainly isn’t Flanagan’s first dip into the horrifying world of Stephen King. The director previously brought audiences the second chapter of The Shining via his 2019 feature Doctor Sleep and delighted Netflix audiences with his feature-length adaptation of Gerald’s Game. With Flanagan ditching Netflix and moving on to greener pastures with Prime Video, it’s still unclear how The Life of Chuck will be distributed.
