The summer seems to just be heating up with new projects from director and producer Taika Waititi. Famous for his work on the Academy Award-winning film Jojo Rabbit, Waititi has graced audiences with the presence of wit and humor as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe entries Thor: Ragnarok and this year’s Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth season of his acclaimed television series, What We Do in the Shadows, premiered in July as is enjoying a successful run on FX. Now, it appears Taika Waititi is throwing his fans for a loop as it was announced this week that the director and artist Rita Ora have taken their romance to a new level.

According to a report by The Sun, Taika Waititi and Rita Ora married in secret in a ceremony in London, with the singer apparently subsequently changing her name. Ora will now go by Rita Waititi-Ora, after dating the famed director since 2021. The wedding ceremony was apparently very small and intimate, with a larger celebration planned for a later date. At this time, Ora is recording a new album and the two may not go on a honeymoon any time soon due to their packed schedules. Glamour reports that rumors had started spreading last weekend when Ora’s sister Elena posted a picture of Waititi on Instagram wearing a silver wedding ring, but the post has since been deleted.

Before Taika Waititi married Rita Ora, the two have become famous for their individual talents outside of their personal life. British singer Ora specifically is the recipient of numerous awards for her musical career, which has included the top ten singles “R.I.P.,” “How We Do (Party),” “Your Song,” and “Let You Love Me.” She is also internationally known for her acting skills, which have included minor roles in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise and the 2021 film Twist. On television, Ora has been a host or judge on several reality competition shows, including The X Factor, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, America’s Next Top Model, and The Voice (Australia).

For his part, Taika Waititi may be more famous than his wife Rita Ora when it comes to pop culture film enthusiasts. After bursting onto the independent film scene through a strong collaboration with Jemaine Clement on Flight of the Conchords, Waititi took that collaboration and made it official with the film Eagle vs Shark in 2007. Strong reviews from the project led to more work on the original feature film incarnation of What We Do in the Shadows in 2014, which progressed into the television version currently airing. Disney took note of Waititi’s talents and asked him to direct Thor: Ragnarok which provided the director with a chance to voice one of the main characters, Korg. His association with Disney has been beneficial for audiences who have enjoyed his work on The Mandalorian and Thor: Love and Thunder. Waititi won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Jojo Rabbit, making him one of the most sought-after writer/directors working today. According to IMDB, the director’s next project will be Next Goal Wins, which will star Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, due to be released in 2023.
