As we edge closer to the debut of Andor, the latest Star Wars prequel series, fans are excited to see the expanded story of the Rebellion amid the threat of the Galactic Empire. Set five years before the events of Rogue One, the story follows an ensemble cast of characters during the formation of the Rebel Alliance. But the main focus of the plot is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually plays a huge role in stealing the plans for the Death Star. Now, to create some hype for the Star Wars series, Disney is re-releasing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in select IMAX theaters.

According to Fandango, screenings will begin on August 26th with those in attendance getting exclusive access to Andor ahead of its September 21st premiere. Released in 2016, the film served as an introduction for Cassian Andor and Diego Luna (the actor who portrays him). The 42-year-old will reprise the role in the prequel series.

Rogue One is known as one of the more successful projects in Disney’s Star Wars era. It earned over $1 billion at the global box office, making it the 20th-highest-grossing film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2016 during its theatrical run. The movie also received positive reviews from critics, who praised the acting, story, visuals, musical score, and dark tone. It even received two Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects. However, it was criticized for its pacing, characters, and digital recreations of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher.

The story begins a week before A New Hope and follows a group of rebels who band together to steal plans of the Death Star, the ultimate weapon of the Galactic Empire. It also details the Rebel Alliance’s first effective victory against the Empire, first referenced in Star Wars opening crawl; Rogue One was directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. The project features a stellar cast that includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

The Star Wars re-release of Rogue One will perfectly prepare fans for Andor. The 12-episode adventure will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series also brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how different people and planets became involved. It’s described as an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Along with Luna, other Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actors said to be returning for Andor include Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma – a senator who tries to navigate the politics of the Empire while secretly helping to found the Rebel Alliance. Forest Whitaker also returns as Saw Gerrera – a veteran of the Clone Wars and the leader of a militant insurgent group. Fiona Shaw, Alex Lawther, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Alex Ferns, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller also star.
