There are a lot of different Jedi that have popped up in the Star Wars universe, and the question of Jedi being the “best” has long been a point of debate amongst fans. But if you asked Dave Filoni, his answer would likely be Anakin Skywalker. Disney+ recently released a video to hype up the upcoming release of the Ahsoka series, and Filoni mentions that Ahsako was mentored by the greatest Jedi of all time, Anakin Skywalker.

Dave Filoni, creator of The Mandalorian, described Anakin Skywalker as “the greatest Jedi of all time.”

Now, whether or not Anakin Skywalker is actually the best Jedi in the Star Wars universe may be up for some debate. While Anakin is likely the most powerful Jedi, that doesn’t necessarily make him the best of the bunch. There’s the whole thing where he killed a bunch of Younglings, led the attack to kill his fellow Jedi, and then wreaked terror on the galaxy as Darth Vader, which is decidedly un-Jedi-like.

Anakin Skywalker also fell in love and had a secret relationship with Padme, which is also clearly against the Jedi way. So, maybe Filoni didn’t so much mean that Anakin Skywalker was the ideal model of a Jedi, but rather was trying to say that he is clearly the most skilled and powerful. That is certainly an argument that would be difficult for any Star Wars fans to disagree with.

Ahsoka was created by Dave Filioni in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

Anakin Skywalker is the chosen one, after all, and was prophesied to bring balance to the Force. Anakin was an incredibly powerful Jedi and was arguably just as powerful as Darth Vader, if not more so, despite his body being mostly machine at that point. No matter how you slice it, it’s difficult to pinpoint many Jedi in the Star Wars universe that outclass Anakin in pure power and raw talent, outside of maybe his own son Luke Skywalker.

Dave Filoni certainly knows his stuff and has been a big part of keeping Star Wars relevant over the years by helping to create quality shows like the animated The Clone Wars and Rebels series and live-action shows like The Mandalorian.

Perhaps one of Filoni’s best contributions to the franchise was helping to create the character Ahsoka Tano, who has become a fan-favorite character over the years and could also be in the conversation for being one of the greatest Jedis, despite choosing to leave the Jedi Order. We’ll get to see Filoni bring his character to live-action with the upcoming Ahsoka series.

Ahsoka debuts on Disney+ on August 23.

Fans were hyped when Rosario Dawson made her debut as the live-action version of Ahsoka in The Mandalorian, and the wait has been difficult to get to see her lead her own show. Now Star Wars is releasing Ahsoka in just over a month, with the series set to hit Disney+ on August 23.

The series will follow Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka as she seeks out lost Jedi Ezra Bridger and deals with the impending threat of the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Along with Dawson, Ahsoka stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Eman Esfandi, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, Lars Mikkelson, and the late Ray Stevenson. We also should be getting an appearance from the “greatest Jedi of all time,” as Hayden Christensen is listed in the cast. We’ll keep you updated on this and all other upcoming Star Wars news.
