The Team Making Sherlock Holmes 3
There are rumors galore as the production moves towards it start, so let’s separate fact from fiction. Fact: Guy Ritchie will not be returning to the series as he has been replaced by Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher. Fact: Chris Brancato has been hired to write the screenplay. Brancato is best known as the co-creator of the Netflix series Narcos while also having small screen credits on The X-Files and Beverly Hills 90210.
Robert Downey Jr. will be back in Sherlock Holmes 3 as Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law will return as Watson.
The only cast member officially announced is Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders) who portrayed Colonel Sebastian Moran in the second Sherlock Holmes movie.
Jared Harris’ Moriarty is said to be returning to SH3. If you recall, his character, along with Holmes, took their tumble over Reichenbach Falls, both appearing to have perished. Holmes made his survival known at the end of A Game of Shadows, but Moriarty was believed to have died. It’ll be interesting to see how they bring him back, if that’s the case.
Noomi Rapace is also rumored to be back as the gypsy fortune teller Madame Simza, who helped Holmes and Watson take down Moriarty.
Although Rachel McAdams name does appear on the Sherlock Holmes 3 IMDB page, her return has not yet been confirmed.
Oscar Isaac (Star Wars trilogy) is being looked at for the role of Senator Cornelius Guest.
It is also said the story will bring in a new female lead as a young investigative journalist and that Daisy Ridley (Star Wars trilogy) is circling this role.
While it has been confirmed that Paul Anderson is to return as Sebastian Moran, there have been some recent rumors that Michael Fassbender (X-Men series) could end up with that role instead.
The Plot Of Sherlock Holmes 3
Word is that the film will be set in the Old West with San Francisco the likely destination. The story appears to follow Holmes and Watson as they travel to the U.S. to deal with a corrupt businessman, Senator Cornelius Guest.
One controversial rumor claims that part of the story of the film will involve confirming that Holmes and Watson are gay lovers, and apparently have been all along. Obviously that’s not something that was ever part of the text of Arthur Conan Doyle’s books. There it’s clear that the duo are simply good friends. However this source insists the new movie will push them into the realm of being non-platonic.
Some view the first two movies as having hinted that Sherlock and Watson are gay. So if that’s something you took away from them, then it’ll probably be no surprise when the third movie takes things to the next level, if indeed that’s where they’re going.
However the biggest obstacle to making the pair a gay couple is probably the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which, in the past, has been adamantly against letting this happen. They actively blocked the previous two movies from making them gay, so unless contracts have changed a lot, it’s hard to imagine them changing their mind and letting this happen if they can stop it.
