Aside from being the “holy crap” news of the year, Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm could be a turning point for both corporations. But with the promise of a new Star Wars movie in 2015, let’s remember how excited we were in 1996 when George Lucas announced that the prequels would be coming in 1999. Remember that sense of joy and optimism? Now let’s temper that feeling with a new “Gangnam Style” parody video featuring Jar-Jar Binks — “Gungan Style.”

Jar-Jar Binks and Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace aren’t just symbols of how a successful franchise can go horribly wrong; they’re also a symbol of the “kidification” of Star Wars in general. Adding characters like Jar-Jar Binks, alongside a young Anakin Skywalker to the Star Wars universe just makes it easy to be skeptical of the news of three more Star Wars movies.

Even if George Lucas is not involved with the property, it still may be branded to children instead of an older audience or fans of the original series. The latest acquisition from Disney further gives fodder to the point that Star Wars is just for kids. How dark and sophisticated can the new Star Wars actually be with Disney bankrolling these new films?
