We’ve taken Comedy Central’s cancellation of Futurama personally. Primetime science fiction cartoons are pretty much nonexistent at this point, and losing this one hit home in a major way. There are healthy ways to show reverence to the genius of this neo-classic show, such as remembering favorite moments, and quoting it with your friends while eating pizza that you ordered under the name “I.C. Weiner.” What probably isn’t the most impressive way to spend ones time is to sit here staring for hours at this new picture, which features damn near every single character that ever appeared in a meaningful context on the series. There are even different versions of the main cast, as seen by Fry/Shaggy and Robot Professor Farnsworth. That said, it’s nearly impossible not to stare at this thing for eons on end. So. Many. Characters.
Created by DeviantArt user Urellius, this drawing took around 14 months to complete, and he (or she, we don’t really know, and don’t want to presume anything) went right on adding characters up until the show’s finale. I’m not quite sure how it was done, but I assume a lot of screencaps and Photoshop went into this. Possibly a pickup truck full of Adderall as well, since we know Bender is prone to hogging all the booze.
You can take a look at the full picture in all its minutely detailed glory, but first here are a few close-up shots that give a clue as to how many bazillions of characters are depicted in this remarkable piece. I’d start naming them—Hedonismbot, Calculon, Clamps, Hypnotoad, Morbo—but I don’t think any of us have all year to sit through that.
