While Scarlett Johansson has been in roles which paint her in a tough manner, she actually has quite a weird secret phobia.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is one tough woman. From her many roles in spy espionage, superhero dealings, and A.I. ninja-type fighting, there is literally nothing she can’t do. Or at least pretend to do. However, even with all her roles as some of the toughest women on the planet, she has a real-life phobia that might shock some fans. Johansson suffers from ornithophobia. For people who are not up on phobia classifications, she is afraid of birds. While that is certainly not that uncommon of a phobia, it still does seem a bit weird.

Scarlett Johansson recently sat down with New York Magazine, where she dropped the bombshell to the world. According to her, “Something about wings and beaks and the flapping. I’m terrified of them. That still hasn’t gone away.” While the fear of the above is certainly warranted, most birds want nothing to do with humans, except pigeons that get fed by random strangers on the street. One thing that the actress is alluding to is that her phobia has not “gone away.” This could mean that she had the phobia as a kid without being able to grow out of it lost most situations. We are often scared of the dark as children, but that fear goes away with time. Apparently being afraid of birds is one that hasn’t yet disappeared for her.

While her bird phobia is alive and well, it could be the time that she breaks out her acting toughness and takes a role in which she must deal with birds. Maybe there could be an Alfred Hitchcock revival in the works at some point. While we are not condoning torturing Scarlett Johansson and her psyche, a Birds reboot would just be fantastic. It could bring out some true horror acting from her. According to Healthline, some 12% of adults in the U.S. experience some sort of phobia at some point in their lives. While that number doesn’t necessarily pertain to the phobia of birds, 12% of the population is still a lot.

According to Scarlett Johansson, the bird phobia runs in her family, as she stated that her uncle is also terrified of birds. Hopefully, she and her uncle can keep away from birds for the sake of their mental well-being. Also, hopefully, she doesn’t have to be cast in any film that is heavily involved with any sort of winged creatures. The Birds reboot is likely something that is never going to happen. Most of the Hitchcock films should never be remade.

Scarlett Johansson is certainly a champion for being so candid on what scares her, and hopefully, no one plans to use this information to mess with her. While her time as Natasha Romanoff in the MCU has certainly ended, she is continuing her Hollywood dominance. Her newest project is appearing alongside Bill Murray in the new Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City. The film is currently in post-production and has not yet been given a premiere date. Wes Anderson is likely not to include birds in his new production, and even so, they would likely be made of paper and not cause much fear in anyone.
