While we know Dwayne Johnson will be the DC Extended Universe’s latest addition with the release of Black Adam, the cast of the upcoming film is still fleshing itself out. However, Black Adam has just cast another major part, with Sarah Shahi joining in an unknown role.

Deadline reported Shahi’s casting, saying she will be playing a “university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq,” the birthplace of Black Ada. While it’s not known who Shahi will be playing, Dwayne Johnson posted the news on Instagram saying, “She’s baaad,” leaving many to believe that Shahi could be a villain in Black Adam. Some have theorized that Shahi could be playing Adrianna Tomaz, who becomes the character of Isis. In the comics, Adam falls in love with Isis and gives her abilities that are equal to his own.

Sarah Shahi is a former NFL cheerleader who has been acting since 2000, appearing in such films as Old School, A Lot Life Love, and Rush Hour 3. But Shahi also has significant television work on her resume, most recently working on shows like The Rookie, Showtime’s City on a Hill, and Person of Interest. Already this year, Shahi has appeared in the films Language Arts, and the Alicia Silverstone and Rob Corddry-starring Bad Therapy. Currently, Shahi is filming a new series, entitled Sex/Life, which is scheduled for a 2021 premiere date, while Shahi will join Dwayne Johnson and the rest of the cast of Black Adam when shooting is planned to begin in spring of 2021.

Recently, alongside Dwayne Johnson and now Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has been cast as Atom Smasher, while Aldis Hodge of Straight Outta Compton and this year’s The Invisible Man will play Hawkman. Little else of the film’s cast is known at this point, although we do know that Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously worked with Dwayne Johnson on the upcoming Jungle Cruise film, scheduled for release in 2021.

Black Adam is arguably the most secretive of the DC Extended Universe’s projects right now. Still scheduled for release this year is Wonder Woman 1984, which recently had its release date pushed to Christmas Day. Next year will also see the release of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad film, while 2022 will bring about Andy Muschietti’s The Flash and Aquaman 2. After years in the works and plenty of buildup from Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam still does not have a release date.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson has said in the past that we would like to appear in the Shazam! franchise, since Black Adam and Shazam! are rivals. With Shazam! Fury of the Gods scheduled for release on June 2, 2023, maybe we’ll see Johnson appearing alongside Zachary Levi in that highly-anticipated sequel.

But with production slated to begin, Dwayne Johnson commenting on the new casting, and new actors joining Black Adam within recent weeks, it shouldn’t be long before Black Adam’s production is finally underway.
