In a behind-the-scenes video recently posted on X, Jacob Gibson, the actor portraying the witty sniper and inventor Usopp, has hinted at the potential introduction of the beloved character Vivi in the next installment of Netflix’s One Piece. Netflix’s adaptation of the popular manga and anime series One Piece has successfully captured the hearts of fans worldwide despite initial apprehension regarding a live-action rendition of such an iconic piece.

Who Is Vivi?

Vivi in the One Piece anime

The teased character, Vivi, is a compelling figure in the One Piece universe. Nefertari Vivi, the princess of the Arabasta Kingdom and the daughter of Nefertari Cobra and Titi, has earned her place among the royalty not just by birthright but her marked deeds. As a young girl, she was part of the Suna Suna Clan and served as the vice-leader under her confidant, Koza.

Although it may be different on the Netflix One Piece, her story truly begins to unfold when she emerges as a primary antagonist in the Reverse Mountain Arc, aiding the Baroque Works under the alias Miss Wednesday, partnered with Mr. 9. Her journey takes a dramatic shift during the Whisky Peak Arc, leading her to an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates.

One Piece was originally a manga series created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997 and has since grown into one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

Despite eventually returning to her homeland, she is regarded as an honorary member of the Straw Hat Crew. She has continually monitored their adventures, even after becoming a fugitive and disappearing from the eyes of Imu and the Five Elders post her escape from Mary Geoise. Her spirit persists, and her loyalty towards her crew remains unwavering. The potential inclusion of this fan-favorite character in the Netflix One Piece is sure to excite fans of the manga and anime.

Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece

Netflix One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his diverse crew, known as the Straw Hat Pirates. The show captures their journey across the high seas in search of the ultimate treasure — the One Piece — to become the Pirate King. In the first season, the series covers up to the Arlong Park arc, and around 95 chapters of the original manga by Eiichiro Oda.

One Piece Season 2 is reported to be released sometime in 2025.

One Piece was originally a manga series created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997 and has since grown into one of the best-selling manga series of all time, boasting over 480 million copies in circulation worldwide. The success of the manga later spawned an anime adaptation which, in turn, has become one of the longest-running anime series globally.

Given this rich history, there were concerns about the translation of One Piece into a live-action format, particularly over whether the live-action could properly capture the manga’s unique aesthetics and humor. However, since debuting on Netflix, One Piece has successfully managed to allay these fears, delivering a faithful adaptation that maintains the essence of its source material.

The inclusion of Vivi in the upcoming season of Netflix’s One Piece looks to add further layers to the dynamic narrative of the series. With the show’s successful first season covering just a fragment of the original manga’s storyline, there’s a fantastic world of adventure awaiting both new viewers and long-time fans of this epic pirate saga. One Piece Season 2 is reported to be released sometime in 2025.
