If you like them apples, now you can buy them and put them in a Matt Damon shopping bag! A supermarket in Dublin, Ireland has added a viral picture of the Oscar-winner actor to its plastic shopping bags.

Matt Damon Featured On Shopping Bags

Rushe’s SuperValu has released a new, reusable shopping bag that has an outline of Matt Damon, along with the name of the store and its tagline. At first glance, the image doesn’t really look like Damon, and in order to recognize him, you’d have to be familiar with the picture that went viral.

The Original Photo

Back in 2020, Matt Damon went swimming in the seaside town of Dalkey, an affluent suburb of Dublin. The Bourne star was photographed carrying a red and white Rushe’s SuperValu bag between his legs and locals went wild speculating on what was in the bag. Damon posed for the camera, his body tilted sideways, with each foot on a different step of a set of stone stairs with the water in the background.

Despite his positioning being slightly awkward, Damon has a smile on his face.

He later revealed he was carrying his swimming gear down to the waterfront in the plastic bag.

Matt Damon Lived In Ireland While Filming The Last Duel

The picture went viral, and now, years later, the store is capitalizing on it with its bags. Locals are now joking/not joking about other possible merchandise like, perhaps, tote bags!

The 53-year-old spent months living in Dalkey with his family since he was filming The Last Duel in Ireland. You’ll recall that 2020 was lockdown, and despite that, Matt Damon has said he and his family love Ireland. The multihyphenate star said the reason may be because they didn’t do any sightseeing and truly got to live in the area as locals. He said one of his daughters even told him she could live in Ireland permanently.

The Last Duel Was A Flop

If you don’t remember Damon’s film The Last Duel, that may be because it flopped at the box office despite being directed by Ridley Scott and the fact that Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Damon’s best bud Ben Affleck shared the screen with Matt Damon. The period drama only made $30 million worldwide in theaters, however, it succeeded on video-on-demand. On iTunes in 2021, it was number one on the charts.

Affleck told Entertainment Weekly this just shows how much the theatrical movie business has changed. He said the films that will continue to succeed in theaters will be animated or the “event-ized” ones from the likes of Marvel. He added that if Argo came out now, it may have been a series and not a theater film.

If you ask Ridley Scott about the performance of his film, he’ll likely tell you something different. In 2021, the director was on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast and pointed the finger at a certain generation, “The millennian, [who] do not ever want to be taught anything unless you told it on the cellphone.”

Up Next For Matt Damon

As for Matt Damon, besides being on a shopping bag, he’s starring in the upcoming Netflix crime thriller, Animals, with his BFF Ben Affleck directing. Also, Affleck’s ex-wife Jennifer Garner is in talks to star in the film.
