After dominating the pop music charts for over a decade, Lady Gaga in past years has moved on to a successful acting career. Gaga earned a Golden Globe for her work on American Horror Story: Hotel, and earned an Oscar for the song “Shallow” in A Star Is Born, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. With acting opportunities lining up for Gaga, a new rumor says she might be portraying an iconic video game badass.

On his Patreon, Daniel Richtman has reported that Lady Gaga is in talks to appear in a Bayonetta movie. Lady Gaga has shared her love of the Bayonetta franchise in the past, and her “Rain on Me” music video with Ariana Grande features plenty of references to the Bayonetta games, so it sure seems like Lady Gaga would be more than willing to be a part of this series.

While Richtman doesn’t say who Lady Gaga would play, odds are she would play the title character of Bayonetta. In the series, Bayonetta is a witch who looks like a librarian, and fights enemies with her long hair and guns in her shoes. Based on the aesthetic of the character alone, this sounds like someone Lady Gaga would dress up like anyway. The series was created by Hideki Kamiya, who also made the Devil May Cry franchise, and both games feature an over-the-top hack-and-slash gameplay mechanic.

While Devil May Cry has an anime in the works with Netflix, and a rumored film that never came to fruition, there haven’t been many rumors of a Bayonetta movie. Bayonetta did receive an anime film, entitled Bayonetta: Bloody Fate in 2013, and the character has appeared in various games like The Wonderful 101, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but mostly, the character has remained a cult favorite. However, with Lady Gaga showing interest in adaptation the game, it’s easy to see how this could quickly become a hot new film property.

As of right now, Lady Gaga is only attached to a handful of properties, but it’s clear she has ambitions to continue her acting career. Lady Gaga is rumored to appear in Bullet Train, the new film from Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch. While Richtman doesn’t mention in his rumor who could be directing the film, Leitch’s penchant for insane action would make him a strong contender for the position. However, considering she’s also worked with Robert Rodriguez in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills, Rodriguez could also be a good possibility.

But Lady Gaga is signed on for Gucci, which is currently in pre-production. The film about the infamous fashion designer is being directed by Ridley Scott, and will also star Adam Driver and Jeremy Irons, with Al Pacino and Jared Leto rumored to join the cast.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta seems like just the wild type of video game that Lady Gaga would be in to, and the lead character seems made for Gaga. The musician and actress is clearly a fan, and it almost seems impossible to imagine the movie with anyone but her in the lead role.
