Before Josh Brolin was in talks for Weapons, Pedro Pascal was originally attached to star, but reports are saying that he is leaving the film due to scheduling conflicts. The writer’s and actor’s strikes over the summer pushed the production schedule from its initial fall 2023 start date, and now Pascal is committed to shooting Fantastic Four.

Details Are Scarce

It’s unclear what role Josh Brolin will be playing in Weapons, as the plot details have been kept closely under wraps. Cregger is writing and directing the project, which is reportedly a horror epic with multiple intertwined stories. While it would have been cool to see Pascal lead this project, Brolin definitely seems like he will be a suitable replacement.

The Rest Of The Cast

Along with the potential addition of Josh Brolin, the only other announced cast member for Weapons is Renate Reinsve. Reports say that other cast members for the film include Brian Tyree Henry, Tom Burke, Austin Abrams, and June Diane Raphael. We do know that the producing team for Barbarian is returning, with Cregger joining Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo, and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures

Zach Cregger’s Barbarian was a shocking debut from The Whitest Kids U Know comedy troupe member. The film was made on a shoestring budget of $4.5 million and brought in an impressive $45 million at the box office along with plenty of critical acclaim. Josh Brolin coming on to Weapons should help to boost the box office showing for this project as well.

Dune: Part Two

Whether Josh Brolin officially signs on for Weapons or not, the actor has plenty of big upcoming projects on his plate. The biggest of which is the upcoming Dune: Part Two which hits theaters next weekend. Dune: Part Two is Denis Villenueve’s epic sequel to his 2021 Frank Herbert adaptation that also stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and Christopher Walken

Dune: Part Two has already received nothing but glowing early reviews, so it seems like Josh Brolin has another massive blockbuster hit on his hands. He could certainly continue his hot streak if Weapons ends up being as critically acclaimed as Barbarian. There are also rumors that Brolin will be reprising his role as Cable in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine for the MCU, though this is unconfirmed.

Outer Range
