Over the years Jeff Goldblum’s witty banter and quirky sense of humor have earned him an enviable fan following. Now the 69-year-old, who is currently on a promotional tour for Jurassic World: Dominion, is sharing his thoughts on his most iconic scene from the dinosaur franchise. And he’s apologizing for it! The actor is set to reprise his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm after a minor appearance as the character in the film’s predecessor.

Released in 1993, Steven Spielberg’s epic dinosaur adventure, Jurassic Park, also starred Laura Dern as Ellie Satler and Sam Neill as Alan Grant. Since then, several scenes have cemented their place as iconic moments in pop culture. One such moment features a slightly injured Ian Malcolm in a semi-shirtless pose after narrowly escaping the terrifying jaws of a T-Rex. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Jeff Goldblum addressed the long-running joke.

“I don’t remember how it came to be,” he told the publication. “I have no idea. It just happened somehow.” Jeff Goldblum went on to apologize for the scene in jest. “I’m sorry, for better or worse. I apologize profusely. Or… you’re welcome?” That particular image of Ian Malcolm has become synonymous with the Marvel star over the years. Taking on a life of its own, the photo appears on everything from T-shirts to coffee mugs and is also a popular internet meme.

In 2018, the iconic photo was turned into a massive 25-foot statue in celebration of Jurassic Park’s 25th anniversary in London. Jeff Goldblum also recreated the moment in 2020 in a post on Instagram. With an impressive catalog of movies to his name, the actor has definitely given audiences more than his Jurassic Park pose. Luckily, he doesn’t mind the attention it’s garnered, even if he has apologized for it.

Meanwhile, fans are delighted to see Jeff Goldblum’s character return to the Jurassic Park franchise in a more substantial role. Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World: Dominion serves as a direct sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It is also the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy and concludes the story that began in the original Jurassic Park trilogy.

The Jeff Goldblum starrer begins three years after the Lockwood estate incident. During that time, dinosaurs started to live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. The story examines how this fragile balance will reshape the future and determine whether human beings really are the ultimate apex predators on a planet they now share with the most fearsome creatures in history.

Starring alongside, Jeff Goldblum is an ensemble cast that includes Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, and BD Wong reprising their roles from previous films in the dinosaur franchise. They are joined by Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Mamoudou Athie, Campbell Scott, and DeWanda Wise. The highly anticipated Jurassic World: Dominion will have its world premiere in South Korea on June 1st. Thereafter, fans can see Jeff Goldblum in theaters everywhere on June 10th.
