James Gunn Has A Surprising Reaction To Lady Gaga Being Cast As Harley Quinn
James Gunn is one of the most masterful comic book adaptation filmmakers in the world, and the man recently had a surprising reaction to Lady Gaga being cast in Joker 2.
James Gunn only directed one DC film and one series so far, but he has left his mark on the company. The Suicide Squad was fantastic, and the spinoff series, Peacemaker, was more of the same. Mostly everyone agrees that any comic-based story the man gets his hands on will likely be good. He hasn’t failed so far. Surprisingly, the director recently spoke on his opinions of Joker, especially the upcoming sequel. Gunn is apparently fully on board with Lady Gaga being cast in the film. According to Gunn, “I’m really interested to see what Todd Phillips cooks up. I met Lady Gaga once and she was really nice, so I’m always rooting for nice people to do well.”
Those are some nice words coming from one of the upper echelon directors in the comic book adaptation pace. What makes his praise even better is that he refers to Lady Gaga as being nice. Now, that may not seem like a big deal, but there are a ton of celebrities who are not nice at all. We often hear stories of some just being outright mean to others. James Gunn was impressed enough to want to see Gaga do well in Joker 2. We are all pulling for her to do well. In fact, everyone is aching to see the upcoming Todd Phillips sequel. Joker was a monumental success, landing star Joaquin Phoenix a Best Actor Academy Award. The sequel is a bit away, but we can all impatiently wait to see what happens next.
James Gunn did show off some behind-the-scenes photos of Peacemaker Season 2 recently, which was one of the worries for fans of DC properties. The worry comes from the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery, and now CEO David Zaslav so easily canceled Batgirl. The cancelation of a $90 million dollar movie that was nearly finished has sent shockwaves through the filmmaking community. Directors of Batgirl: Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, received plenty of support, even from the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. This led to fans questioning Gunn about the safety of the highly anticipated Peacemaker Season 2. He reassured everyone that his show is safe, which is fantastic news. It appears the money makers of DC are still intact. This includes The Batman 2, Joker 2, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Idris Elba also recently teased that he was working on a big project for DC. Could this mean that James Gunn will give Bloodsport the same treatment as Peacemaker? We certainly hope that is the case, as both of those characters were the best part of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie.
For now, we can all breathe a sigh of relief as we know James Gunn is moving ahead on Peacemaker Season 2. Also, the man has also just finished wrapping Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He will have two big Marvel films out, and a DC series out in the next two years. But just like Gunn, we also can’t wait for Joker 2. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are set to star alongside one another for the sequel to one of the best comic book films ever made.
