Idris Elba Says His Best Character Could Destroy A Lion
Idris Elba recently revealed that his best character would destroy a lion if he had to, which is an odd choice considering all the iconic characters he has played.
Idris Elba is set to star in a film called Beast, where he teams up with Sharlto Copley to take down a murderous lion. Elba takes on the role of a father out on a safari with his two teenage daughters, who are then hunted by the king of the jungle. The film has the makings of The Ghost and the Darkness, which saw Val Kilmer team up with Michael Douglas in a similar plot. While on press tours for Beast, Elba was asked which of the other iconic characters he has portrayed would be able to take down a lion. According to Elba, “Definitely John Luther. Oh, he wouldn’t be worried, he’d be like, ‘Ah, come on.'”
It is a bit odd that Elba decided to choose John Luther as the character to take on a lion. He has portrayed Bloodsport, who can basically kill anyone. He proved that plenty in The Suicide Squad. He also was a mechanical marvel of a man as the villain in the Fast & Furious spinoff film, Hobbs & Shaw. Elba was Brixton Lore, a cybernetically altered terrorist that would likely be able to easily dispatch a lion. However, Elba chose Luther. That’s not entirely a bad choice. Luther is one of the best characters he has portrayed and one that arguably made him super famous. Luther is a smart detective that would likely figure out a way to outsmart the lion in some way.
Everyone has been clamoring for years for Idris Elba to return to the Luther character. The last time he suited up for the character was in 2019, which ended the show’s fifth and final season. That was in 2019. Elba has long teased that he would return to the character at some point in his career, but he would prefer it to be in a film. That would make sense as there is a lot more leniency when it comes to what can be done in films versus a series. Elba has become one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, so it would also make sense that he would not want to return to the character for just a television series. We will all have to see what happens in the Luther Netflix film that is near completion.
Idris Elba recently reprised his role of Heimdall in Thor: Love and Thunder, and voiced Knuckles in the spectacular Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sequel. He will reprise that role in a Knuckles series, which was announced before the sequel film had come out. We are not sure about when that series is going to come out, but it could be before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 releases, which has already been given a December 2024 release date.
Beast is currently in theaters right now, and fans of Idris Elba and Sharlto Copley can see the men pair up to try and take down a lion that looks quite horrifying in the trailers. The film is R-rated and is likely going to feature some gory violence. We can’t wait to see how Elba’s character in the film handles taking down such a ferocious beast.
