Bad news Netflix, HBO Max has a new original series on the way, and it is set to be a corker. Fans of the adult animation show Harley Quinn will be more than pleased to know that the beloved show is set for a spin-off. Geekosity reports that HBO Max has ordered ten episodes of Noonan’s (working title) that will center around one of the best supporting characters from the Harley Quinn show, Kite Man.

Kite Man (voiced by Matt Oberg) was last seen at the end of season two of Harley Quinn, all set to tie the knot with Poison Ivy before Quinn confessed her feelings to Ivy and the two Femme Fatales are now all but set to run off together. Noonan’s will see Kite Man recovering from this situation and his post-Ivy life centers around his foolhardy purchase of Noonan’s pub. Noonan’s is a popular haunt for Gotham City’s rogues and features heavily in Harley Quinn. Kite Man is set to moonlight in criminal activity with his pub purchasing partner The Golden Glider in order to pay for the upkeep of Noonan’s in what is set to be another raucous set of comedy adventures from DC Comics and HBO Max.

No release date has yet to be confirmed for Noonan’s, which is to be executive produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, and Kaley Cuoco. Dean Lorey will serve as series showrunner and Cuoco’s Harley Quinn will appear in the show’s pilot episode. Harley Quinn’s first two seasons have been a huge success, a snapshot of the show’s reception over on critical aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes shows that. Quinn and co have received an impressive critic’s score of 94% and an audience rating of 88%. The third season of Harley Quinn has been a long time in the making, but a sizzle-reel of what is to come came late last year and reports suggest that the third season will finally air this summer. Undoubtedly the excitement for that is high and the same can be said for DC Comics‘ Kite Man and his new show. Suzanna Makkos, Executive Vice President of Original Comedy and Adult Animation at HBO Max and Adult Swim, has had this to say about Noonan’s; “We love the wild and fun world of Harley Quinn so much we just had to make a spin-off and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man.”

Kite Man receiving a ten-episode first season run from HBO Max goes to show the positive effect of Harley Quinn as a character within the world of film and television. Margot Robbie’s iteration of the character has been one of the bright lights of the up and down DCEU, which was further cemented by her starring role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. That film gave fans the glorious Peacemaker series on HBO Max, so it is no surprise to see the successful animated Quinn generate a spin-off as well. As well as this, in typical DCEU fashion, it looks like another iteration of Harley Quinn could be on the way, with Matt Reeves looking at actress Victoria Pedretti to take on the role in his Batman universe. With Margot Robbie’s live-action Quinn and Kaley Cuoco’s popular animated take on the character perhaps, this is a case of two’s company and three’s a crowd? Whilst Warner Bros and DC ponder that question, one thing remains almost certain, Kite Man running the show with Noonan’s looks set to be a winner.
