Two major movie theater chains have recently revealed unique prototypes for holding everyone’s favorite movie snack. The traditional popcorn bucket is looking to be replaced, albeit temporarily, in favor of a lookalike for perhaps the most recognizable film prop in the Ghostbusters film series. If you’re one of the expected millions of fans who venture to see the upcoming film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, you might enjoy eating the popped and buttery kernels out of a lookalike ghost trap.

Regal’s Ghost Trap Popcorn Bucket

AMC Theaters recently unveiled their version of the popcorn-holding ghost trap, complete with silver-painted side plates, yellow and black caution stripes, and realistic looking control buttons on the sides. From the base of the ghost trap a plastic container emerges from the top opening, allowing for a roomy spot where the popcorn is poured. But now it looks like along with AMC, Regal Cinemas will also release their own exclusive ghost trap popcorn bucket.

Cinemark

Nor are AMC and Regal the only ones in on the game.

Cinemark released photos of their popcorn dispenser, a prototype that features everyone’s favorite recurring specter, Slimer. A plastic tub is placed into a translucent Slimer that has been molded and painted to look similar to the same otherworldly wraith that first made fans when he famously “slimed” Bill Murray’s character in 1984’s Ghostbusters. Slimer was also used as a gimmick by AMC Theaters during the release of the last film in the franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Promotions

During the theater run of the 2021 film, AMC patrons could opt for their popcorn to be served in a collectable Ecto-1 container, modeled after the iconic vehicle used throughout each of the films in the widely popular film series. While none of these containers will hold a jumbo-sized order of popcorn, the containers do appear large enough for a single patron to get their fill.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to be released in theaters March 22. The latest film in the series won’t disappoint fans who are wanting their favorite recurring characters to make an appearance. Three of the original four ghostbusters will be returning as Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and Ernie Hudson will put on their suits to do battle with spirits one more time, playing the parts of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore, respectively.

The Return Of Peck

The film will also include Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz, reprising her role as the team’s secretary. And the original film’s most unlikeable character, Environmental Protection Agency Inspector Walter Peck, will round out the cast. Peck, played by veteran actor William Atherton, is widely considered to be the Ghostbusters character fans love to hate, as he was responsible for unleashing all of the evil back into New York City that Venkman and his crew were able to capture.

Other Cast And Crew

Fans of Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be thrilled to see the return of actors Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard to the franchise. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Mckenna Grace, and Carrie Coon. Gil Kenan returned to the director’s chair for the film after the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Kenan also shares screenwriting credits with Jason and Ivan Reitman, the latter of whom directed and produced the first of these films 40 years ago.
