Overlooked Fantasy Comedy Anime On Streaming Equally Educational And Hilarious

When I’m looking for a light, easy watch after a long day, there’s nothing more perfect than Heaven’s Design Team. The story follows a group of people in charge of creating animals for God based on vague descriptions or concepts. It’s a cute and quirky show full of funny characters and cute animals that will be just what you need after a rough week.

Creating Life On Earth

The story follows a design team: Shimoda (Junya Enoki), Tsuchiya (Kazuhiko Inoue), Kimura (Yuuichirou Umehara), Mizushima (Junichi Suwabe), Kanamori (Daisuke Kishio), Meido (Naomi Oozora), Unabara (Ryouta Takeuchi), and Higuchi (Asuna Tomari) as they navigate through God’s requests to create animals able to survive on Earth. Each member of the team has their own specialty and masterpieces, such as creepy, cute, stylish, and efficient. Every episode of Heaven’s Design Team focuses on creating a few different animals based on their whims or God’s newest idea.

Light-Hearted Zoology Lessons

While the story mostly focuses on comedic moments, it does delve into biology on occasion, such as why some animals have the features they have or don’t have characteristics similar to those of other animals, as one might expect.

Though there’s only one season of the anime, and it doesn’t seem like a second one is coming anytime soon, there are more entertaining stories available in a different format. The original story came from Hebi-zou and Tsuta Suzuki, who created eight manga volumes based on their idea.

Seinen Anime

I don’t know what I expected from this show, but I wasn’t ready for how adorable Heaven’s Design Team was. Being considered a Seinen anime aimed at young adult men, I expected something a little more serious or action-heavy, but that wasn’t the case at all. It was a simple yet hilarious exploration into the design of animals and trial-and-error designs.

Catchy Theme Songs

The opening and ending songs are also worth mentioning. The ending is “DESIGNED BY HEAVEN” by Junya Enoki and Yumo Hara. These are two of the cast from the show, and I thought it was a nice touch to have them sing.

The opening is even better. The song is “Give It Up?” by 96neko. It’s catchy and upbeat, setting the mood for Heaven’s Design Team. The animation to go along with the song is quite impressive as well, slightly reminding me of Pokemon

REVIEW SCORE

I found it exciting to try and guess what animals would be created in the final result, and there were many times I found myself laughing at one of the unfortunate first drafts or the characters. This show easily gets a 4.5 out of 5 from me.

Heaven’s Design Team has a 7.17 on My Anime List, making it #3639 in the list of total anime. Its popularity isn’t very high either at #2410. Because this series is more episodic in style and there’s no deeper story, it’s not for everyone. However, for those looking for a short and simple show that’s just full of interesting characters and cute animals, this is the perfect option.

If you want to check out this cute and quirky anime for yourself, Heaven’s Design Team is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
