Doctor Strange 3 is rumored to adapt elements of the “Time Runs Out” comic book storyline. According to The Cosmic Circus, the story picks up immediately after the mid-credits scene in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Clea and the titular hero traveling to the Dark Dimension to fix the incursion he caused.

To make matters worse, the multiverse is dying. Its deterioration is a direct consequence of ongoing incursions throughout the multiverse, with the most recent one caused by Stephen Strange.

Doctor Strange 3 will also reportedly reveal that Clea is part of a multiversal organization called The Black Priests. The headquarters of this mysterious group is located within the Nothing Space of Destroyed Universes, an enclave situated among the remnants of two dead universes brought about by an incursion. To make matters worse, the multiverse is dying.

Its deterioration is a direct consequence of ongoing incursions throughout the multiverse, with the most recent one caused by Stephen Strange. Doctor Strange 3 might also delve into a concept introduced in the previous installment, focusing on the threat that Doctor Strange poses to the very fabric of the multiverse.

Although Christine Palmer-838’s research stated that Stephen Strange is a danger to the multiverse, no specifics were given. If the report proves true, Doctor Strange 3 will establish that the titular hero is a common denominator when incursions are caused across the multiverse. However, the Council of Kangs will eventually be revealed as the real threat.

Time Runs Out

In the comics, the “Time Runs Out” storyline unfolded with the pages of Avengers and New Avengers from September 2014 to April 2015. It was penned by the talented Jonathan Hickman, with artwork provided by various artists. The story formed a crucial part of the broader Marvel Comics event known as “Secret Wars,” which caused substantial upheaval within the Marvel Universe.

The story on which Doctor Strange 3 is said to be based is set against the backdrop of a dire incursion crisis, a phenomenon where alternate realities collide and threaten mutual annihilation. These incursions lead to apocalyptic events that endanger entire universes, compelling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to navigate a labyrinth of challenges to avert impending disaster.

The report about Doctor Strange 3 is intertwined with another rumor from The Cosmic Circus. In March 2023, the publication suggested that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will find the MCU split into two groups. Doctor Strange will lead one faction, while the other will be under the command of Kang the Conqueror, portrayed by Jonathan Majors.

Doctor Strange 3 might also delve into a concept introduced in the previous installment, focusing on the threat that Doctor Strange poses to the very fabric of the multiverse.

The story will allegedly portray Doctor Strange as a supervillain, while Kang will be depicted as a character striving to safeguard the multiverse instead of causing its destruction. However, similar to the Doctor Strange 3 rumor, it’s advisable to approach this potential storyline with skepticism until officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.

After wrapping up The Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios revealed plans for the next three phases of the MCU, known as The Multiverse. Projects in Phases Four and Five that have hinted at or directly mentioned the concept include WandaVision, Loki, What If…? Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
