Gannibal

Fear not, fans of Disney+’s Gannibal – the series will officially be coming back for a second season! Now, all you have to fear is the mystery unfolding in the shadows. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved horror series is on its way back with Disney going so far as to drop a short trailer to foreshadow the action and horror that will roll out during the sophomore season.

The first season of Gannibal introduced audiences to a police officer named Daigo who has taken a job in what he thinks to be a quiet and community-driven village after an event at his previous home traumatized both him and his daughter.

Disney has renewed Gannibal, the Disney+ horror series, for a second season.

Welcomed into the small town, Daigo quickly realizes that not all is as it seems – discovering that there’s something terribly wrong with the people who call the village home. After the stunned Officer Daigo unfurled some of the mystery surrounding the town’s most prominent family, the Gotos, the first season of Gannibal left audiences on a cliffhanger, so the news of a renewal will come as a sigh of relief to many.

Gannibal features performances from several notable names in Japan’s entertainment industry, including Yuya Yagira who plays the baffled and in-danger police officer, Daigo Agawa. Also included in the lineup is Riho Yoshioka as Yuki Agawa, Diego’s wife, and Show Kasamatsu as Keisuke Goto, the powerful family’s patriarch.

The teaser for Gannibal Season 2 is exactly that – a short and not-so-telling clip about what’s to come in the next installment. We do see that Daigo Agawa is back on the case, investigating something strange going on in the woods. There’s also a metal slashing noise – like that of a sword – and a splatter of blood that cuts to reveal the show’s renewal. Shedding more light on what’s to come next, Disney included a brief synopsis that promises more secrets will come out of the woodwork in the show’s next season.

Taking their own stab at Japanese live-action manga adaptations, Gannibal has made a name for itself as one of the most watched and talked about shows on the House of Mouse’s streaming platform.

Lending his vision to Gannibal Season 2 is director Shinzo Katayama, who is returning to his position from the debut season. With this bit of information, fans can expect the series to stay in line with the premiere installment, with Katayama’s directorial presence continuing to tell the tale.

Adding another critically acclaimed name to the production, the series tapped Oscar-nominated screenwriter Takamasa Oe (Drive My Car) to pen the script which promises to once again grip audiences and hold them on the edge of their seats.

Taking their own stab at Japanese live-action manga adaptations, Gannibal has made a name for itself as one of the most watched and talked about shows on the House of Mouse’s streaming platform. The original manga was penned and illustrated by Masaaki Ninomiya where it quickly gained steam with fans. With other streamers like Netflix making moves with popular live-action manga adaptations in its latest hit One Piece, Disney continues to be a formidable viewership opponent.

As of right now, the folks behind Gannibal have yet to announce a release date for the show’s second season, but now that fans know it’s on the way, the anticipation and intrigue can officially begin to build.
