It’s a sure bet that between now and whenever it finally happens, just about every single upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project will include rumors about another return for Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Along those lines, there are now reports that the actor is scheduled to show up on one of Marvel’s Disney+ series. The rumors say we will once again see Cox as Murdock in Alaqua Cox’s Echo.

The report comes from Marvel insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct). Richtman shared on his Patreon that Charlie Cox will be on the set of Echo in late May. No other details were revealed about his involvement, including how long he’ll be shooting, where he’ll be shooting, or to what extent his character will factor into the Echo story. The Direct also mentioned that on Monday, @XKateBishopX shared what appeared to be an official Marvel casting call for “Singers, Dancers, and more.” You can see that post below.

Echo would be one of the least surprising re-entry points to the MCU for Charlie Cox. Maya Lopez aka Echo first appears in the source material in 1999’s Daredevil #9 and most of her early appearances take place in that series. As a professional criminal with a history attached to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, it would make perfect sense for lawyer Matt Murdock and his vigilante alter-ego to involve himself in Lopez’s story.

If Charlie Cox does appear in Echo, then perhaps the biggest question is whether he will appear as Matt Murdock, Daredevil, or both. Cox hadn’t made a screen appearance his Marvel character in over three years when he made his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While he displays his special abilities — easily catching a brick hurled through the Parkers’ apartment window — he’s only on screen for a little over a minute, and his role is only as Peter Parker’s lawyer. We know more was filmed because of a shot with Cox and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan that leaked shortly before the No Way Home home release, but that release wound up not featuring any deleted scenes.

Another Disney+ series likely to feature a Charlie Cox appearance is the upcoming She-Hulk. Tatiana Maslany (Perry Mason) will star as Jennifer Walters who, like Matt Murdock, is a lawyer in her civilian life. As two of the most well known lawyers in Marvel Comics, Walters and Murdock have found themselves both working together and on opposing sides in the source material, and it would seem almost criminal to not throw Cox at least a cameo in the series.

Whenever Charlie Cox finally makes his way back to Matt Murdock, he’ll be putting more impressive work under his belt in the meantime. He’ll be starring as MI6 operative Adam Lawrence in the upcoming Netflix spy drama series Treason. It was recently announced that Ciarán Hinds (Belfast) will join the series as Lawrence’s mentor Sir Martin Angelis. There’s no release date yet on Treason, which is currently filming.
