One of the most anticipated Marvel heroes that have not appeared in the MCU is Namor: The Sub Mariner. There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the character, which have led plenty to believe that he will make his MCU debut in Black Panther 2. Even more interesting is the direction in which the franchise is going to take the character. Namor has always been of mythological importance, as he came from the lost city of Atlantis. However, there are rumors spreading that this new iteration of the character will have a different backstory. Namor will now be associated with more Mexican culture, as being either of the Aztec or Mayan history books.

This rumor began to find more prominence considering that Mexican actor, Tenoch Huerta had been cast in Black Panther 2. The speculation about his character has long been discussed, and these new rumors could add fuel to that fire. If Namor is going to be based on Mexican cultural significance, then it makes perfect sense that Huerta has been cast in the film to represent this character. This is certainly a much different change from the character’s origins, but Marvel has not shied away from doing what they can to change characters. You can see a bit about this rumor below:

The Aztec and Mayan cultures could potentially have built a sprawling city that had cascaded into the ocean with time. The pyramids would look amazing in the water if we are being honest. Namor was always meant to be the hero/villain that was part of a mystical culture anyway, and there is plenty of wonders that surround the Aztecs and Mayans. Black Panther 2 is taking a risk by changing the origin of one of Marvel’s biggest characters, but then again, sometimes change is needed.

The only thing that might irk fans is Namor is rumored to be the villain of Black Panther 2, which will be a bit of a letdown. The character is a hero but can sometimes ride the line of being a villain or anti-hero of sorts. The good news is that the character is going to be cemented into the MCU, regardless of whether he is meant to be the villain or not. The great thing is that all villains can have an epiphany that could turn them into heroes eventually, so maybe Namor is only going to appear as a villain at the beginning of the film or in his first appearance. He could just be misunderstood, much like T’Challa was in the first Black Panther film.

Black Panther 2 is set to debut on November 11th, 2022. The long-awaited sequel will pay homage to Chadwick Boseman and usher in a new version of Black Panther. Shuri, portrayed by Letitia Wright, is rumored to be that person. Michael B. Jordan is also rumored to be appearing as Killmonger, but as a mentor in the Ancestral Plane. These cameos and rumors will soon be answered when the inevitable trailer for the film comes out. We might see the first iteration of Namor in that trailer as well. We are hoping for that.
