Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to wrap up Sony’s Spider-verse trilogy, but one star isn’t sure if he’s going to be in it. This could be a major blow for the franchise, and fans are certainly not going to be happy about the decision.

Jake Johnson As Peter B. Parker

Jake Johnson, who plays the Peter B. Parker variant of Spider-Man, recently spoke to ComicBook.com and said, “I love Peter B. Parker. I will say this: I would be so sad if I got a call that Peter B. Parker is not returning to the Spider-Verse, because I feel really attached to that character.”

While Johnson may not have recorded lines yet for Peter B. Parker, it seems highly unlikely that he won’t be playing a role in the upcoming film.

First Introduced In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker was first introduced as a major character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, acting as an initially reluctant mentor to Miles Morales.

Peter B. Parker wasn’t as prominently featured in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with the film focusing more on Miles, Spider-Gwen, and Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099.

Still, Peter B. Parker had quite a few scenes and was seen in the cliffhanger leading into Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, meaning his role in the final film seems almost inevitable.

Beyond the Spider-Verse Pushed Back

Jake Johnson’s comments about not knowing much about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse aren’t too surprising, as the film was pushed back indefinitely.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike likely pushed back the schedule a bit, but the film already had production schedule concerns even before the strikes due to the extensive animation needed for the movie.

Johnson himself even noted that they were in the recording booth just a month before Across the Spider-Verse screened, showing that there’s still plenty of time before the actors need to start recording their lines.

Other Stars Back?

With Sony in no rush to announce a release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, there’s no telling when actors like Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, and Oscar Isaac might start recording lines.

Sony is keeping things close to the vest for this movie, and it seems like that secrecy is partially extending to the actors involved in the movie.

Regardless, it seems almost impossible that Peter B. Parker wouldn’t be appearing in the final film after fans got so attached to the character over the past two films.

So Many Spideys

With even more Spider characters popping up in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse like the aforementioned Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae’s Spider-Woman, Karan Soni’s Spider-Man India, and Andy Samberg’s Ben Reilly, we might just be seeing Peter B. Parker get an even smaller role.

Especially since we should be seeing Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham coming back in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Jake Johnson Plans

While there’s no telling when we might see Jake Johnson in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, fans can look forward to seeing Johnson in his upcoming project, Self Reliance.

Johnson wrote, directed, and starred in Self Reliance, which follows a man who gets the chance to win $1 million if he can survive for 30 days as assassins attempt to kill him. Self Reliance is set to hit Hulu on January 12.
