Gal Gadot Wonder Woman 1984

For an actress recently been rumored to have been fired from the DC Universe, Gal Gadot sure keeps showing up. First, she appeared in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and next, we discover she might appear in The FlashNow, thanks to a slip of the tongue by Shazam 2 star Jack Dylan Grazer during an interview with Fandom, we now know that Aquaman 2 will also feature Gal Gadot returning as Wonder Woman.

When talking about her recent cameo in Shazam 2, Grazer let it slip that Aquaman 2 would have a similar Gal Gadot cameo by revealing she had just walked off that movie’s set. He also described her as being like the mythological “Lady in the Water,” splashing around like a “Mermaid.”

This slip of the tongue regarding Aquaman 2 came as Grazer described his excitement at Gal Gadot’s presence since her cameo was far from being a guaranteed thing in the film. Director David F. Sandberg recently revealed that he didn’t actually expect Gadot to show up — similar to how Henry Cavill never managed to make it on-set for the Superman cameo at the end of the first film.

It’s unknown what role in the plot of Aquaman 2 Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will have. We know that the film will likely involve the unstable domed city of Necrus, which is portrayed in the comics as a militaristic society that is dimensionally unstable, only appearing on earth when certain conditions are met. The only real connection that can be made between Wonder Woman and this sliver of the film’s plot is that she comes from a similar long-lost kingdom, Themyscira, so she might take an interest in the discovery of another.

Aquaman 2‘s use of Gal Gadot means that, despite the apparent cancellation of Wonder Woman 3, Gadot will be 2023’s most-prolific actress from the soon-to-be-defunct Zack Snyder era of the DC Universe. In fact, the only 2023 DC film that Gadot won’t likely appear in is the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. Anything is possible, however, so don’t be surprised if you see Gal Gadot’s face alongside Xolo Maridueña’s in the upcoming movie.

Of course, even the best cameos don’t make for good movies, and Aquaman 2 might end up needing more than Gal Gadot to keep it afloat. With rumors of poor Aquaman 2 test screenings, it seems like the follow-up to the surprise 2018 hit might end up leaving something to be desired.

The fact that Jason Momoa is rumored to be abandoning the Aquaman franchise doesn’t bode well for Aquaman 2, Gal Gadot cameo or no. Momoa is rumored to end up playing intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in upcoming films. While Gunn stated that Momoa would “not play two characters,” that could be interpreted as meaning that Momoa will only play Lobo, not Aquaman.

Whether Aquaman 2 will actually be good, and what role Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will play in the film, remains to be seen. We’ll just have to wait until it releases on Christmas 2023 before we know.
