Deadline reports that Al Pacino and Shia LaBeouf are attached to an upcoming film about the assassination of JFK, aptly titled Assassination. Though early reports of this movie came from this year’s Cannes film festival, more details have emerged even though a lot of the plot is still under wraps at this point in time. What we do know about Assassination, however, is that the David Mamet written script will be directed by Oscar winning filmmaker, Barry Levinson.

Al Pacino is set to star in Assassination, a movie about the mob’s possible connection to the JFK assassination.

The plot of this Al Pacino movie will center on the assassination of JFK, and will have a strong emphasis on organized crime. This re-imagining of John F. Kennedy’s death will suggest that a hit was ordered against the president after making attempts to undermine the mob after they helped him get elected.

Since this film is still very much in the pre-production phases, we don’t know much else about the casting aside from Al Pacino and Shia LaBeouf retaining top billing.

Al Pacino will be portraying a senior mob boss named Tony Accardo in this JFK film, but we do not presently know what role LaBeouf will take on. Though earlier reports suggested that John Travolta would be attached to the film as well, it remains to be seen if he’s still involved, and if so, what role he will be taking on.

John Travolta is rumored to have a role in Assassination

This re-imagining of John F. Kennedy’s death will suggest that a hit was ordered against the president after making attempts to undermine the mob after they helped him get elected.

Assassination will mark the fourth time that Al Pacino has worked under Levinson’s direction, so it’s safe to say that this next effort involving JFK’s assassination will boast a similar chemistry between the star and his director. The duo has previously worked together on Paterno, You Don’t Know Jack, and The Humbling.

Production for Assassination was originally slated for this fall, but as of this writing, it’s unclear if the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike will cause delays. Though we may have to wait for further developments on this Al Pacino movie, it’s worth noting that Netflix is also working on a JFK limited series that will be based on the Fredrik Logevall written biography, entitled JFK: Coming Of Age In The American Century, 1917-1956.

This series will follow Kennedy’s childhood through his time as a senator, spanning 39 years of Kennedy’s life, and placing emphasis on his formative years.

So it’s only a matter of time before we are presented with two starkly different stories that are about to be told. On one hand, we’ll witness an Al Pacino starring thriller that may or may not be taking a number of creative liberties with the events that ultimately led to JFK’s assassination.

Though earlier reports suggested that John Travolta would be attached to the film as well, it remains to be seen if he’s still involved, and if so, what role he will be taking on.

On the other hand, Netflix will take more of a biographical approach in what critics think will be a spiritual predecessor to The Crown, which is a fictional drama inspired by real events that does a deep dive into the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

As more updates emerge in regard to casting, production, and a potential release date, we’ll be sure to circle back on the upcoming Al Pacino movie that will tell a unique story about JFK’s supposed involvement with the mob, and how this led to his assassination. For the time being, however, we’re going to have to wait patiently for further developments.
