Perhaps one of the most anticipated upcoming sci-fi shows is Netflix’s adaptation of Liu Cixin’s Hugo Award-winning book series The Three-Body Problem.

Netflix’s 3 Body Problem adaptation will be brought to life by the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss and True Blood writer and producer Alexander Woo.

It is set to hit our small screens on March 21, 2024. In the meantime, Netflix has unleashed a clip that gives a look at the visuals and shows us a scene of characters Jack Rooney (John Bradley) and Jin Cheng (Jess Hong). Check out the pretty amazing looking trailer.

The 3 Body Problem clip shows Rooney and Cheng testing out an incredibly realistic virtual reality helmet. As for the show itself, the premise revolves around a decision made by a woman in 1960s China that has repercussions across space and time.

The laws of nature began to change and caused a group of scientists and a detective to work together to face off against the greatest threat to humanity in history.

As mentioned, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, along with Alexander Woo, are taking on the 3 Body Problem adaptation.

The laws of nature began to change and caused a group of scientists and a detective to work together to face off against the greatest threat to humanity in history.

The series also has a dynamite cast that includes Jovan Adepo, Rosalind Chao, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Jonathan Pryce, Eve Ridley, Ben Schnetzer, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, and Benedict Wong.

Multiple episodes will be directed by Academy Award-nominated director Derek Tsang (Better Days), who is also on as a co-executive producer.

Needless to say, expectations for 3 Body Problem are exceedingly high, as the novel series by Liu Cixin is considered one of the great sci-fi series of the modern age.

The series includes a trilogy of books titled The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest, and Death’s End, and each book explores complex themes alongside a mind-bending hard sci-fi narrative. It’s an award-winning, highly revered trilogy, and fans of the books are really hoping that Netflix does right by them.

Fans are cautiously optimistic that David Benioff, Dan Weiss, and Alexander Woo will be able to make 3 Body Problem a faithful adaptation as Benioff and Weiss did with the early seasons of Game of Thrones.

Unlike Game of Thrones, Liu Cixin’s trilogy is fully written and complete, so hopefully, this series won’t run into the same problems that Game of Thrones did.

Famously, the latter series went gradually downhill after they ran out of books to adapt, and the final season was rushed and universally hated by fans of the show and the books alike.

Unlike Game of Thrones, Liu Cixin’s trilogy is fully written and complete, so hopefully, this series won’t run into the same problems that Game of Thrones did.

Along with its solid creative team and cast, 3 Body Problem also has some great executive producers on board. Along with Netflix, the partnership involves executive producers such as Bernadette Caulfield, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Lin Qi, Zhao Jilong, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Rosamund Pike, and Robie Uniacke.

With all the talent behind this adaptation, there’s hope that this could be the next great sci-fi series. And Netflix is undoubtedly hoping that it can be their sci-fi Game of Thrones.

We’ll just have to wait and see if 3 Body Problem can stick the landing. Fortunately, we don’t have too long to wait. The series hits Netflix on March 21, 2024.
